Happy "Buy Nothing Day" Is anyone going to the dance???
This is my favorite High Holy Day of the Church of Stop Shopping. The next favorite would be "Tell off a Corporation Day".

The dance is at 3:00 in Union Square in New York City. I hope if anyone goes, they will take pictures!!!

Here is a link to the dance details:

1. Is it OK to go out to eat?
We purposefully skipped Tday so we have no left overs.

5. I love it!
I was going to buy a couple of things on-line today, but they can wait.

I saw a bunch of idiots on the news last night who'd been camped out at a Best Buy since Wednesday night. They missed Thanksgiving sitting in a line. One guy said he was going to save a couple thousand dollars on sales. :wow: If he was going to save a couple thousand, how much was he going to spend? He looked like a regular working person. Can he really afford that?

I'm at work. No one will bother me all day, and I'll do whatever I feel like. I'll probably spend all day on DU.

7. Did it once, never again
Shopping the day after Thanksgiving is strictly for amateurs, LOL!

Lucky for me I'm way too far in debt for anyone to expect me to buy them a present.

11. This weekend I'll buy some seed for the inside and outside birds ,
but anything else would be a cardinal sin. Fight my way thru raving mobs to buy some made in China crap is just plain nuts.

14. I never buy anything on "Black Friday"
I also slip Tan Saturday, Purple Sunday, Apricot Monday, Beige Tuesday, Lilac Weds,
and Burnt Umber Thursday.

None of them go with anything I'd wear.

Tell off a corporation was a link to take you to Forest Ethics and a petition that would get rid of all the junk mail in your mailbox and save forests too!!

23. Thanks, whatgives. I really like Rev. Billy's church!
It wasn't too late to sign the petition @ Forest Ethics. I took great pleasure in the opportunity to "Tell us what you REALLY think" about junk mail. I took it literally and let it rip.

I'm feeling much better now, thank you.

16. I am baking today. Slept late, enjoying a No Work Day.
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 11:49 AM by yellowdogintexas
I have two chocolate pound cakes to make for a charity auction next week. They will go in my freezer. There are some other odds and ends I can do in preparation for the auction party as well. I do not even think I need to go to the grocery for baking supplies, I am well stocked with butter, eggs flour and sugar which is really all you need; I have been gathering this stuff for a couple weeks now, in preparation for this work day.

Between mixing and baking, I am going to putter around the house, cleaning up my clutter that gets tossed everywhere when I am in the house alone for an extended period, do some laundry, etc. and sort of get ready for next week, and the back to work stuff.

My daughter and her BF are stopping by later this evening then spending the night here tonight, so I have to make sure they can at least walk around the house.

Tomorrow we are going to visit her friend who has a new baby, then maybe taking a Tour and Tasting at a local microbrewery,   :toast: :toast:   and joining the BF's parents for dinner out at a restaurant over on their side of the Metroplex to celebrate my daughter's birthday which is Saturday. I thought it was sweet of them to plan a dinner out for her and invite me ...the only reason they are here this weekend is because his mom did not want to wait until Christmas to see her son! I don't even have to shop for a birthday present, I bought it ages ago.

I may, (emphasizing MAY) take a run over to Garden Ridge after dark to try to match some ribbon for a wreath I am building. They had acres of it and I didn't buy any for my red wreath because I thought I had plenty. What I had is wrong shade of red...bright Christmas red when what I needed was more of a cranberry color .OTOH I can use some glittery gold ribbon I found the other day

Well first cup of coffee is finished, now for the oatmeal and the second cup of coffee then starting the first cake.

I love how my house smells when I bake with chocolate. }(

20. No.
I can't afford to go to the dance because I lost my job when all of our retailers went bankrupt because people stopped buying anything.

21. That's why we need to implement *infrastructure jobs* at State and Local level.
Giving BILLIONS upon BILLIONS to foreign owned banks JUST so they can buy up other banks OR any bail-outs of Private Corporations will not TRICKLE DOWN to us little people.

This crap about making us go spend until we're thousands upon thousands in debt won't work for the Middle or Lower Classes. Why? Our blessed CORPORATE United States Government will only bail out Wall Street. :puke: :grr:
