Former first lady Barbara Bush was moved out of the intensive care unit of a Houston, Texas, hospital into a regular room Thursday after surgery to repair and seal a perforated ulcer, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Bush's husband, former President George H.W. Bush, was with her Thursday morning, but was leaving to attend Thanksgiving dinner with his son Neil, the Methodist Hospital spokeswoman told CNN

4. Neil 'Silverado-Skank' Bush?
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 04:47 PM by SpiralHawk
The same simpleton Connecticut Yankee good-time Bush boy-o Fail Freak who ripped off people through the Silverado Savings & Loan, and then bilked the American taxpayers to receive a whopping megabucks fatcat bailout?

How loathsome. How absolutely anti-American.

Republicon family values. Ptoooey.

Silverado Suck-up Neil & Commander AWOL Bush smirk it up:

7. Be as snarky as you want, but that cranberry-olive stuffing just isn't the same reheated
He's had 62 of marriage attending to that one woman--give or take. Would you really begrudge him 30 minutes with that stuffing when this is the only Thanksgiving that he'll have with it?

At long last, Malaise, have you no decency?

9. I'd have been happier if they both had Thanksgiving dinner
at the Houston Astrodome with the same menu served in post-Katrina NOLA. Remember Babs said it was a real improvement on NOLA.

Decency -any Bush - Malaise - I think not

12. so what. She wasn't in critical condition.
Hell, when my dad was in intensive care for nearly seven weeks a few years ago, we didn't stay at his bedside every minute. For example, I insisted that my uncle and brother leave the hospital with me and go to a baseball game to celebrate my brother's birthday.

Getting together with family away from the hospital is hardly unusual or worthy of criticism. Makes us look stupid.

14. Maybe our family is different
We never leave our sick alone in a hospital. We organize a roster and someone is by that bedside 24/7.
Seven weeks is way different from a few days.

22. My family, too. If you have been around hospitals a bit, then you know
it's a good idea to stay with the family member who is the bed.

A damn good idea if you care about your family.

32. My mom kicks people out when she's in the hospital.
She can't stand to have people worrying over her 24/7; she'd rather have the quiet (as much as you can get in the hospital).

It's a good idea to respect the patient's wishes.

I'm willing to give the Bushes a pass on this one, since we really don't know what was going on in their heads or private conversation.

I sure didn't get that from this report. At least one of us was with my mom every hour during her last ten days.

16. Barbara Bush isn't in her "last ten days" -- she's not even in intensive care
No one should sit in judgment of how families deal with family illnesses. Sure, if papa bush had left the hospital to go across the country to give a speech, he might be deserving of criticism. But going to his son's house for thanksgiving dinner? Not deseerving of criticism at all.

Pretty much any member of my family would expect and insist that family members spend Thanksgiving together.

Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 05:42 PM by pitohui
when i'm that sick i kind of want to be left alone anyway

the two of them are pretty creepy human beings but i wouldn't necessarily see anything wrong w. this, she may even have urged him to go to the dinner

if i was sick, in hospital, and family members insisted on posting a log and being around me 24/7 i'd feel like i was on suicide watch or in rehab or something, that is just not enough distance for me when i'm sick, let me sleep dammit, i'm not sick to entertain you -- with all due respect, i realize some families can tolerate more closeness than others but i don't think it's horrible not to be there 24/7

... for that kind of duty? There isn't a single, genuine emotion between the entire clam ... just condescension and self-gratification.

26. which put the onus on her to hide when she was sick as long as possible
that's a lot of pressure and some people need more space and privacy when sick rather than be surrounded by people, no matter how concerned

we can agree that someone is a shitty drughead who vomited on the japanese prime minister without pretending that this particular action was in any way wrong

if i were barbara and i just had major surgery because of an ulcer, i would not want to be around food, but nor would i want to deprive the people i loved of their feast just so i could play the martyr -- i would urge them to be on their way and let me fucking sleep!

i really don't see the wrong doing here
