2. Some good news about the 42 dogs that were found alive

At Vicks' estate.

At the time the dogs were first discovered, the press said all these dogs were so vicious and awful that they would need to be put down.

But Pit Bull rescue teams from all over the coutnry flew in to help evaluate, socialize and train the dogs. Only two were in fact put down, one dog just too far gone in terms of meanness to be able to be adopted out. And one very sweet female "Rosie" who had suffered so long, with such traumatic injuries that she was also euthanized. (One worker said that the poor animal had lived in pain for at least 3 of its last few months. "I'll never forget that dog.")

All the other doggies were so happy to be out of their cages, so happy to be around other humans and other dogs, that people were blown away. Only dogs and other animals will endure months and months of rotten treatment and yet still remain open-hearted and glad to get on with life, tails wagging and not looking back.

And all ended up with good homes.

3. I get tired of the "feral" mythology.

All modern small cats are from domesticated stock and have been domesticated for millennia. I have rescued many cats who I've been able to socialize that anyone else would have given up on. Many of them have personality problems just like people have personality problems.

Vick should not be allowed to play again, but sports is about money.

And also helping people understand that most animals will, with enough time and love, be happy to become domestic partners with a human companion.

5. I was disgusted by the pronuncement that "all the dogs had to be put down"

and I hope more people learn about the rehabilitation of the other dogs.

Thanks to sane (dog) people this tragedy was averted. Too bad we can't focus the same energy on the ferners, immigrants and "teh gays".
