"An employee has been killed" Response "I've been on line since yesterday"
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 10:31 PM by Liberal_in_LA
One more comment on the Wal mart death. I wonder if their thoughts will flashback to the dead man lying on the floor everytime they turn on the Samsun 50-inch Plasma HDTV.

"This crowd was out of control," said Nassau police spokesman Lt. Michael Fleming. He described the scene as "utter chaos," and said the store didn't have enough security.

Dozens of store employees trying to fight their way out to help Damour were also getting trampled by the crowd, Fleming said.

Items on sale at the store included a Samsung 50-inch Plasma HDTV for $798, a Bissel Compact Upright Vacuum for $28, a Samsung 10.2 megapixel digital camera for $69 and DVDs such as "The Incredible Hulk" for $9.

Kimberly Cribbs, who witnessed the stampede, said shoppers were acting like "savages."

"When they were saying they had to leave, that an employee got killed, people were yelling 'I've been on line since yesterday morning,'" she said. "They kept shopping."

3. I hope the family sues WalMart for every penny they can get out of them
It is an employer's responsibility to keep its employees safe. WalMart failed big time.

15. Wal Mart's press release on this sickened me.

They didn't give a damn about the employee or his family. But they damned well made sure to tell the world that they had the proper security at that store(a lie) and that they had the front doors barricaded. They did everything they could to publicly absolve themselves of any liability. May certain Wal Mart execs rot in Hell...

26. Then let's sue every major retailer in America
It's their Black Friday sales that create these insane crowds. It's just that, this time, the deaths happened at Wal-Mart and Toys R Us. It's bound to happen again, sooner or later, to other retailers as well. Regular security won't do any good; it'd take a freakin' SWAT team to handle those mini-riots when stores' doors open.

What's needed is to stop creating these huge crowds in the first place, by having normal sales ALL WEEKEND LONG, instead of trying to get hundreds of people to cram into a store for a four-hour sale.

28. A few lawsuits settled for megabucks will stop the Black Friday rushes.
As much as I'd prefer that stores stopped the practice without such an incentive, once it becomes too expensive for them they'll stop.

32. As long as there is the crass commercialization and hype of christmas
this shit will keep happening. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who are too fucking stupid to realize the shit they are buying today will be cheaper in a week or two.

13. Lets not get too over the top
You could look at it this way:
When people see things so insane it causes a reaction. This reaction is "hey humans seriously get your crap together!"

21. I don't think it's over the top, actually........
I'm old and I've watched the devolution in my lifetime of what used to be called "humans". This seems to get worse, almost on a daily basis.

The frightening part, for me, anyway, is that I don't see one single thing out there that might occasion people to change their behavior. That's why I think maybe it's time for the Great Fireball to take this planet out and take our species with it.

We've already killed the planet - I agree with Kurt Vonnegut, who believed the earth is past the point of redemption. Beyond that, I don't know what's worth saving any more.

Oh, but, let us not forget our manners - welcome to DU, NOW tense. :hi:

8. My heart goes out to that worker's family.
And I would bet these same people who behave as animals don't believe in evolution. A lot of merchandise is available online, or on Cyber Monday. People act as if the world will end if they don't get that Beanie Baby or Cabbage Patch doll, or whatever the flavor of the day is. When people in the back start pushing, people in the front have to move or get trampled.

It is such a shame that some poor guy had to die over this.

20. NOT!
The American Heritage Dictionary’s usage panel found it unacceptable to use the word ironic to describe mere unfortunate coincidences or surprising disappointments that “suggest no particular lessons about human vanity or folly.”
