Kristol Calls On Bush To Pardon Torturers And Wiretappers, Reward Them With Medal Of Freedom»

In his new Weekly Standard column, right-wing pundit Bill Kristol lays out a to-do list for President Bush before he leaves office. He urges Bush to deliver speeches “reminding Americans of our successes fighting the war on terror.” Kristol dreams, “Over time, Bush might even get deserved credit for effective conduct of the war on terror.”

After urging Bush to fight the incoming administration’s desire to close Guantanamo, Kristol concludes with this:

One last thing: Bush should consider pardoning–and should at least be vociferously praising–everyone who served in good faith in the war on terror, but whose deeds may now be susceptible to demagogic or politically inspired prosecution by some seeking to score political points. The lawyers can work out if such general or specific preemptive pardons are possible; it may be that the best Bush can or should do is to warn publicly against any such harassment or prosecution. But the idea is this: The CIA agents who waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and the NSA officials who listened in on phone calls from Pakistan, should not have to worry about legal bills or public defamation. In fact, Bush might want to give some of these public servants the Medal of Freedom at the same time he bestows the honor on Generals Petraeus and Odierno. They deserve it.

In the Bush era, the Medal of Freedom has come to absurdly represent a reward for those who carried out policy failures at the urging of the Bush administration. By this standard, the implementers of torture and wiretapping certainly qualify for such a medal.

9. That supercilious, automatic smile and that glittery-eyed look are the default position of his face.
I think he tries to look intelligent while seeming to be engaged with other persons in the room. But he just looks like an automaton.

2. Somewhere there is a facility with plenty of meds and elevator music
Bill's family should consider getting him into one soon.

"You republicon torture freaks claim to be 'christians' but I say unto thee: what you do unto the least of them, you do so also unto me. It does not help matters that you lie about it relentlessly. Your wide-stance, evil-doing, anti-Christian immorality will insure you a deserved place in Hell.

"And that goes for you republicon media whores, too. There is a special place in Hell for lying propagandizing apologists and excuse makers.

4. I was just reading this __ This is how the right covers their crimes
By proposing the outlandish notion of a Medal of Freedom for torturers and eavesdroppers, Kristol will work to make pardons seem like the reasonable part of his proposal.

6. Thank You Daddy For My Career
He couldn't get a job as a ditch digger if it wasn't for his already famous, and equally crazy, father.

10. What?. .And admit they might have done something wrong?
Wouldn't that just pull the house of cards down on all their craven heads?

No no no. Better to keep saying "If the President Does it, IT'S NOT ILLEGAL" over and over again and call Congress's bluff.

11. A Bush Medal of Freedom is a dishonor.
I'm surprised Petraeus and Odierno are willing to accept one. They have to be thinking how much better it would be to get one from Obama.

12. Good thing Kristol brought this up
The idea can now be considered as an asswipe suggestion from the prince of fraud.
Once Kristol puts his moniker on it, it can be assumed to be pure bullshit.

13. We can't let these psychos tarnish the MoF any more than they did the flag, patriotism, and the
Pledge of Alliegance.
