BJP, India's opposition and "center-right" party, politicizes attacks |
|
Politics did not take a break, with local polls taking place in New Delhi on Saturday. The Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), India's main opposition, took out front-page advertisements accusing the ruling Congress party coalition of failing to defend the nation.
"Brutal terror strikes at will. Weak government. Unwilling and incapable. Fight terror - Vote BJP," said one ad, showing a blood-red stain on a black background.Congress, criticised by the BJP about national security for the past few weeks, shot back: "20 days of false campaigning cannot replace 10 years of development. Your decision". http://in.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idINSP18373320081129?pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=0

1. Ummm... so what are they supposed to do? |
|
Should they do what we did out here, which is cower behind Guiliani and Bush, and ask such entirely unsuitable people to enforce draconian laws, to make us feel safe?

2. The BJP is, in many ways, the Bush and Giuliani party of India. |

And is some ways, they aren't the Bush and Guiliani party. And in some other ways, they're like purple grapes!
Why traffic is absurd metaphor and no-text postings? Explain what you mean clearly and show you can type up a paragraph or two. Otherwise you're just another example of typical DU knee-jerk-itis.

6. Uh, no. Maybe you could do a little research every now and then, instead of expecting anonymous |
|
people on the Internet to hold your hand.
If you compare the two major parties of India to those the US, you'll find that the BJP has much in common with the Republicans (associations with right-wing religious organizations, in this case Hindu rather than Christian), while Congress is more like the Democrats (more of a coalition of diverse groups, secular in goals, highly disorganized). As someone with family in India, I'd much rather have the Congress "fighting terror" than the BJP, much like I'd rather have Dems on the task here than Republicans.
Still curious? Google, search, and read. Not? Oh, well.

9. Ummm.. maybe you could stop displaying your own ignorance |

Instead of hurling around nonsense such as "expecting anonymous people on the Internet to hold your hand", or "search, and read. Not? Oh, well" - perhaps you could've paused and thought, "hey, maybe this person knows more"? I know, it's hard to get to 1000+ postings as you've done, if everything you posted were actually substantive, huh?
OK, to get to the subject at hand. The Congress party, your silly analogies to the Democrats notwithstanding, is far from the "coalition of diverse groups, secular in goals" party you claim it to be. The Congress is known as the coddler of minority interests to the explicit exclusion of those of the majority. We're not talking things such as affirmative action or other resource-based help programs, we're talking explicit wedge-issue based politics, much like Sarah Palin's "good America, bad America" nonsense. In any event, the issue is very contentious in India, and your half-assed definitive statements only show yourself as someone with a low information level, and who is comfortable in making judgements based upon that meager foundation.

7. "another example of typical DU knee-jerk-itis"? Why are you here? |
|
I see you posted this sort of insult other places also. Why post if you don't like it here?

4. Yeah, let's wait till everybody loses interest! |
|
Most bodies, by the way, have already been cremated.
Anyhow, the time to start the discussion is now. By the time we finished our unite-behind-Guiliani phase here, nobody was interested enough to actually read the legislation that was pushed through.
That said, it is sad that the examples that network TV in India is pushed are those of Guiliani and Homeland Security.
