PORTSMOUTH, N.H. --

A Haverhill, Mass. man is facing drunk driving charges in Portsmouth after an off-duty
Portsmouth police officer witnessed the man driving a car that was dragging a fire hydrant.

The officer spotted Jeremy Aron, 33, driving at the intersection of Lafayette Road and South
Street just after midnight on Friday. The officer noticed that the car had heavy front end
damage and was dragging the hydrant under the vehicle.

Police later determined that the hydrant was hit on Middle Street at the intersection of Aldrich Rd.

Aron was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and conduct after an accident.

Police said there were no injuries as a result of the accident.
