Modesto pastor: Consider confession if you voted for Obama
St. Joseph's Father Illo says state of grace could be at risk

By Sue Nowicki

last updated: November 29, 2008 02:20:20 AM

Parishioners of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Modesto have been told they should consider going to confession if they voted for Barack Obama, because of the president-elect's position condoning abortion.

"If you are one of the 54 percent of Catholics who voted for a pro-abortion candidate, you were clear on his position and you knew the grav- ity of the question, I urge you to go to confession before receiving communion. Don't risk losing your state of grace by receiving sacrilegiously," the Rev. Joseph Illo, pastor of St. Joseph's, wrote in a letter dated Nov. 21.

The letter was sent to more than 15,000 members of the St. Joseph's parish. It is one of 34 parishes in the Stockton Diocese, which has more than 200,000 members in Stanislaus, San Joaquin and four other counties.

Illo also delivered this message in a homily.

Though Obama's support of abortion rights angered many Catholics nationally during the campaign, Illo's letter is believed to be the first in Central California from a priest to his parishioners on the topic.

14. This dumb fuck is inciting without intelligence
My blood boils.

Obama advocated upholding our current law, which is NONE OF THE CHURCH'S BUSINESS.

What other laws does this professional virgin(?) think we should break?

Out of the pulpit, you freak, and back under your Bishop's skirts.

40. There is no tax code violation in this story
Campaigning for McCain during the election would have been one.

2. I'm not Catholic, so please explain
who gave this priest the authority to demand this? Isn't it the individual who decides what he needs to confess rather than someone else?

6. No, it's the Church which mediates between God and man, in theory.
So, the priest has every right to exhort. He can't actually force people into confessionals.

8. Ah!
Thank you. But here's another question--can't priests get into trouble with the Vatican if they say something the Pope doesn't like? Seems to me Fr. Matthew Fox was silenced and eventually left the Church because of his ideas like "original blessing", etc.

11. Priests can get into trouble if they violate church doctrine.
I'm not sure if that has to do with the Pope's personal likes or dislikes.

15. Here's the deal -
This weenie wants to get people into his confessional telling him that they "sinned" by voting for Obama so that he can then lecture then under cover of forgiving their sins and granting them absolution.

The little show-off needs to get on the stage if he wants such an audience.

Man, this stuff pisses me off beyond belief.

Edited on Sat Nov-29-08 04:16 PM by patrice
He knows if he does, he also has to chastise all of the War Mongers receiving Communion and, you may notice from Catholic Church History, that Popes take care of their War Mongers.

Maybe if the Catholic Church accepted women and married people as priests or equivalent they could put guys like this in some sort of protective custody where they wouldn't be a danger to themselves and their communities.

Stupid kills.

31. This "Pastor" needs to confess for his LIES!
He's knows that Obama does not "condone" abortion! Obama has never spoke out in favor of abortion or told anyone they should run out and get an abortion!

What Obama "condones" is giving a woman the right to choose what happens to her own body!

These asshole so-called men (and women) of God who keep spreading this lie that Obama "condones" abortion need to be reminded that the Bible says in no uncertain terms that LYING LIPS ARE AN ABOMINATION TO THE LORD!

38. Where was this asshole while Bush was Murdering a Million fucking human beings?
First, As an ex-Catholic I'm confused.. I don't recall catholic "holy" guys being called a Pastor..

Second, who the fuck doesn't understand the Bible? THIS clown.. Who apparently hasn't heard "Render Unto Caesar that which is Caesars.." the bible itself preaches separation of Church & State..

He needs to get canned from this job, he sure sucks at it..

But NUNS on the other hand are Pure Evil and need to be sent to Personality Re-Integration Camps until they get over it. I have severe reactions to them, told my wife while shaking like a leaf in a Best Buy upon the sighting of Nuns that I had to leave or she'd be forced to drag me off of them, pry my hands from around their necks.. Because I am of the opinion that if I get my hands around their throats that ONE of us is going to go to Hell..

Can't even go to Penguin Island at a Zoo, it's that bad.. Always wondered if I could sue the church for the potential of me attacking a Nun on sight.. Feel like Alex in Clockwork Orange..

Wish I was kidding.

Oh Jesus, please Save Us from your followers, especially pointless Pricks like this dick...

I've been looking for it without luck.

I'd like to send him an email that if he voted for Bush, perhaps he should ask for forgiveness for the human life lost in Iraq.
and if he has continued to support the Catholic Church throughout the Priest-Pedophilia extravaganza without standing up against it, HE should repent for
encouraging child molestation....

I seriously don't understand these people.
