Edited on Sat Nov-29-08 07:32 PM by hlthe2b
Build me what I want and I will give them another chance.. (high mileage, reliable, hybrid, preferably plug-in, preferably small RAV4 sized AWD vehicle)

I have a 10 yo car that I'm pushing to make it a bit longer. So, US- Auto makers: Build me what I want and I'm there.

I don't shop at WalMart

8. All but one of the cars I've bought have been American
and I only occasionally go to Walmart, and only because the one by me is always slow and it's an easy in-out thing when I just need one thing. It's like going to a convenience store or something.

So I guess I'd occasionally do either but generally don't do either.

9. I don't shop at Wal-Mart (none where I live) . . .
But I have in the past. I'm ambivalent about them and they highlight one extremely negative aspect of globlization: regardless of economic factors, globalization means that local standards for employee-employer relations are rendered completely irrelevant. Naked economics will define that relationship going forward. If your society isn't ready for that kind of change in such relationships, tough shit.

I've also owned American cars . . . but as it stands now, I'd never buy another. Not because they're terrible, but because they're mediocre and there's no good reason for them to be that way except stupidity at the top of the US automakers. I don't see them being escorted off the properties, so fuck 'em.

My Mercury is going to be 10 years old in 2009, and other than regular maintenance, I've never had a single problem with it! If you take care of your vehicle as you should, you shouldn't HAVE any problems with them either!

19. That's cool, I wish I could live without a car
If I hadn't lost my eyesight in my one eye, I'd be hoggin' still. And if the mass transit promise of the 60's had been fulfilled in NJ, I'd be bussin' too.

Edited on Sat Nov-29-08 08:00 PM by silverweb
I'm lucky enough to work from home and live in a city that has quite good public transit to the few places I need to go; otherwise, it might not be possible.

What part of NJ are you in? Netcong... God, yes. Being car-less there would be pretty impossible.

I'm originally from north-central NJ and public transportation is utterly impossible. I wanted to take a bus or train from the Newark area to the Cherry Hill area during my visit in August, but "you can't get there from here" anymore by public transit like my grandmother used to do.

15. I have to shop Wal-Mart...
My wife is a manager.
Doesn't mean that I don't slam them for their actions but I get a discount.

I also only buy American made automobiles. My last 15 cars have all been Chrysler and I owned one Chevy.

I am pro union and still shop Wal-Mart. It really throws the pollsters into a frenzy.

Hope your Thanksgiving was good too.

34. She does not like what has happened to Wal-Mart
She was there when Sam was alive and it was a completely different company. One that cared for the community and it's employees.

She has talked about quitting several times but hates to give up her vacation.

Wal-Mart at one time promoted American Made and promoted local products right inside the front door as with signs indicating they are local.

But for management, it is a fair living and she feel she does make a difference in the employees lives. Not all Wal-Mart management is bad. Her store mgr just got fired, he was making life miserable for everyone in the store.

Never even thought about buying a foreign car - ever.

Never will either.

Wal-Mart can go fuck themselves.

While I never worked as a Union Member in my life (my career took a different path), my Dad is a retired Union Member.

And based on my upbringing, I will always respect organized labor.

And American Producers of American Products.

And I'm talking about ALL the parts, including tires, wiperblades and cigarette lighter -- I'll consider buying it IF it gets 50 miles to the gallon and carries a warranty for 10 years on EVERYTHING.

Until then I'll be shopping locally to avoid Walmart CRAP.

31. I still find it laughable that people will rag on walmart for their cheap foreign crap but
scream bloody murder about their right to buy a foreign car. There is no difference in what walmart is doing and what the foreign car makers are doing. They are all anti-union/anti-worker. To support one is to support the other.
