Two headlines from current Yahoo start page.
1) Holiday shopping season off to solid start, retail data finds

2) Suspects sought in stampede death of Wal-Mart employee

What kind of law can we come up with against Shopaholism?

1. I'd talk to the Mullahs in Iran
they probably have a few good ideas up their sleeves.

2. I haven't been able to reach any Mullahs but...

I do have a call into Sam The Sham.

Oh yeah...and Oprah too.

If they don't know, who does?

6. Actually my response was meant to point out
the utter folly of proposing a law against "Shopaholism" in this country. Perhaps it would be possible in a Theocracy like Iran.

But anyone who was awake during their 10th grade civics class would know that, wouldn't they.

3. Yes, let's encourage people to spend less
and send the economy further into the shitter.

4. Sounds good to me.
I was talking to a friend the other day about an industry that's having a revival: shoe repair.

I know for a fact that one can go to a thrift store & buy three pair of good shoes for under thirty bucks. I mean good shoes, not crap.

Then, if needed, you can have them resoled for maybe ten or twenty bucks a pair.

Shoes for a year for under a hundred bucks.

A real blow to Tom Delay endorsed Mariana Island style sweat shop fascism.

Consumerism is killing us, body & soul.

8. My SO works in leather, was thinking about this very thing a few years back. We decided that
it wouldn't pay for several reasons. 1. People won't pay for the product 2. leather ain't cheap any more 3. "throw away shoes, meaning cheap shoes that cost under $20/$30, people will throw away and buy new. My So was making hand sewn and tooled belts out of leather and started out charging $10 when he had to raise his price just to break even people complained. So needless to say that business went bust.

11. Yeah. People don't know the value of things. They know the price.
I have a leather jacket I'm going to wear until the day I die. I mink oil it every year. It's a beaut.

I'd like to give it to somebody when I die but I don't like anybody that much. Maybe my SO will figure it out.
