Biden and Clark discussions critical for Obama admin. NOW,
imo.

"Even if the Bush administration can keep the situation from escalating, President-elect Barack Obama will find his administration trying to broker cooperation between two aroused and suspicious regional powers.

An important element of Mr. Obama’s plan to reduce militancy in Pakistan and turn around the war in Afghanistan has been to push for a reconciliation between India and Pakistan, so that the Pakistani government could focus its energy on the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan that are controlled by Islamic extremists." >>>

Samantha P is very good, but there's no one better than Wes Clark for long term strategic thinking and tactical ideas; Joe B knows the area and people well.

VERY troubling.

6. I know, Joe, no one has,
but this business brings it sharply into focus (for ME, anyhow) how badly he's needed.

7. I haven't...
however, that doesn't mean that General Clark isn't doing some BTS work in Asia. If I am not mistaken, he has to wait 10 years from active duty military until he can be Def. Secretary. So why not have Sec. Gates fill the time and keep continutity.

2. india and pakistan are way beyond arroused and suspicious.
pakistan has to GIVE on the issue of dealing with government and extremeists.

and it gets worse -- they have actually WORK with india.

the u.s. doesn't really have a lot to do with this.

5. U.S. is still, I think, world's police, so
we do 'have a lot to do' with this, and everything else.

Of course, it can be argued that we've lost that role due to w+cheney's gamesplaying.

9. it has a lot to do with us because we think it does.
and that in a nut shell with contemporary u.s security thinking.

this really is an india and pakistan problem.

i t rolls over on it's margins because of a misguided war on terror since 9-11.

otherwise we would have hidden our beds for things like the irish troubles.

10. The Irish Troubles?
Have you missed somethings?

Like it or not, there really IS a global economy, and Nuclear Weapons, which both of these countries have. Maybe thats why we have been an international cop.
