Wal Mart Statement on Black Friday Incident. NO apology.
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 12:02 AM by Neo
http://walmartstores.com/FactsNews/NewsRoom/8829.aspx

We expected a large crowd this morning and added additional internal security, additional third party security, additional store associates and we worked closely with the Nassau County Police. We also erected barricades. Despite all of our precautions, this unfortunate event occurred.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased. We are continuing to work closely with local law enforcement and we are reaching out to those involved."

- Hank Mullany, Senior Vice President and President, Northeast Division, Walmart U.S.

I'm sure the family of the deceased is real touched by your outpouring support of fucking lame excuses.

1. I doubt their lawyers would let them "apologize".

7. An apology would implicate them in the incident
and legally, they don't want to be in that position. By citing the measures they undertook to try and prevent such an event, they are making an effort to shore up their defense in case they are sued. It might not resolve the situation in respect to their consciences, but they are making a strong case for their legal defense.

2. They will blame the "shoppers" and deflect all publicity
in this "tragic set of events".

In the end, this will hurt Wal-Mart among intelligent people. Maybe. And God-forbid that poor man was an illegal just surviving.

16. Half the blame: Wal-Mart. Half the blame: The savages who stampeded
Let's face it, you don't need security to keep normal, civilized human beings in check while they do their shopping.

I blame Wal-Mart (and ALL retailers) for having these insane "a few hours only" sales in the first place.

But I blame the customers who were sick enough to stomp this poor man to death, AND giggle and make jokes while the paramedics were giving him CPR.

Watch the video...those people were SICK IN THE HEAD. Only one man on the audio (who appeared knowledgeable about emergency procedures) sounded as if he gave one damn about the poor victim's treatment.

Wal-Mart did wrong, that goes without saying. I'm not disputing that.

But Wal-Mart did NOT make those people stomp on a fallen man, break doors off hinges, OR laugh and joke while paramedics were trying to revive the victim.

Every person who laid one shoe on this man is a murderer. Just because the police couldn't catch them, and because they're unknown people, they'll get no punishment whatsoever for their part in murdering this man.

Wal-Mart's share of the blame is no different than that of any retailer that creates Black Friday sales. ALL such sales, esp. those lasting only a few hours with limited quantities, are going to attract the worst of the worst--people who will literally stop at nothing to get what they want.

There's way too little focus here on the fact that ALL retailers encourage this. Not to mention the fact that there wouldn't be injuries and deaths like this, if people wouldn't be so evil as to stomp on someone who's been knocked to the floor.

Notice how the police aren't using the security video to go after the people who deliberately stepped on the victim? In any other case, this footage would be all over the news, with the public being asked to ID the perpetrators.

But just because there's a retailer that can be held accountable, nobody cares. Nobody cares that PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL ON THE STREETS were callous enough to stomp all over a man and kill him, in pursuit of a "bargain".

4. Photos showed no barricades. If they were there at all, they were inadequate. Also, people weren't
moved into a single line for admittance and/or allowed inside in small groups at a time.

23. Sober mood at LI Walmart

Tension simmers beneath the kindness at death store
Sunday, November 30th 2008, 12:00 AM

The glass the crowd broke while pushing through the entrance the morning before was now covered by flattened cardboard boxes.

The workers seemed to be doing their best not to be edgy as they stood where their colleague had been trampled to death.

"Welcome to Wal-Mart," several chanted in empty tones.

They can't do that.
