1. I googled "English soccer riots 1990"

And a link to BBC came up and a Wikip*dia list for riots and a Wikip*dia page for soccer hooliganism did too.

3. Sheffield! And it wasn't a riot
It was a crowd that had been misdirected and crushed like 20 people to death against a gate that was supposed to be open.

8. You are correct.
But, I hadn't remembered what you were talking about so I basically googled "soccer riot."

I've read some of the articles (including Wikip*dia's page on compression asphyxiation) and watched the video and am sorry I got it wrong.

What a tragedy.

5. Yeah, thanks

I remember the photos from the sports photographers who were standing right on the other side of the gate but couldn't do anything except photograph the people being crushed to death. Crowd dynamics are scary.

6. Wow, a trial in 2002
I had no idea the legal wrangling went on so long after it.

9. I went looking for photos, and found a link to an interesting site ...
... for a company that specializes in crowd control http://www.crowddynamics.com/Main/Crowddisasters.html

Fascinating stuff.
