http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20081128/melamine_soymeal_081128/20081128?hub=HealthMelamine is an industrial chemical that has been blamed for killing at least three babies and making 50,000 others ill in China through tainted infant formula.
Christophe Courrouce, spokesman for the Terrena co-operative, says tests conducted on the soymeal imported in October found levels of melamine up to 30 times the maximum level authorized by sanitary authorities.
He says the soymeal was used to produce feed for organic poultry, but that tests on animals revealed no contamination.
Terrena has withdrawn 800 tonnes of soymeal that came into contact with the contaminated pellets and suspended all soy imports from China.

Amongst the millions of things in America needing fixing is the food safety net. I can only hope enough people make a big enough fuss to get what is supposedly OUR government to put human entities well being ahead of corporate entities profits. Times like this I doubt even the Obama admin. will be able to get the FDA/USDA on track with so many corporations more interested in covering their behinds than providing safe food for their clients aka the consumers to eat.
