1. I'm happily living a Republican-free existence.
That's easy to do here in Portland.

4. I think a lot of us do
and those friends are basically decent, just wrong on how the economy works.

My dad was diehard GOP who loved the illusion of tax cuts. I don't think he ever changed his opinion on those, but he did change his opinion of Stupid and his last vote was for Kerry.

I think most of us with GOP friends suspect our friends voted for Obama once they got into the privacy of the election booth, or that they were disgusted enough that they stayed home.

Good people are allowed to be wrong.

5. I do...and every one of them is Republican for religious reasons.
The funny thing is that I'm atheist, so I don't have a large number of ultra-religious friends.

6. Republican friends and family, too.
We get along OK. There's so much more to life than party affiliation.

7. Down to the last couple now, after the Bush years.
I let go of a few old friends who thought Bush was just great - mostly well off with draft-age sons who thought the stinking war was the best thing since sliced bread, so long as they didn't have to pay taxes to support it or send their kids to fight in it.

Fucking hypocrites. My last couple of GOP friends aren't neocons.

12. Yeah, quite a few
Get along great with 'em, actually. We have an unwritten, unspoken rule, though, that we only discuss politics when we're drunk. And half the time that'll somehow turn into Irish drinking songs...

13. I used to have some but had them involuntarily committed to
locked psychiatric units in far-flung rural provinces.

It was for their own good.

14. I have several, oddly enough though.....
Many of them behave in ways counter to accepted repuke mantra:
They smoke weed, (unlike myself), none have ever served in the military, (unlike myself), some are on second and third marriages, etc.

21. Friends from childhood who are Repub for religious reasons.
We all grew up Lutheran (LCMS) together - parochial school from preschool to HS graduation. I'm one of the few who turned out 180 from my parents.

Don't have all that much in common with them now, but we're all invested in the idea of keeping the friends we've known for 20+ years. They're fun enough to hang around as long as we don't talk about anything of substance.
