Savior Causes Collision- Jesus' will because the other motorist was not “driving like a Christian.”
A speeding pickup rear-ended a woman's sedan on the South Side on Friday morning and sheriff's officials say the driver said it was Jesus' will because the other motorist was not “driving like a Christian.”

The bizarre incident that shut down southbound U.S. 281 above the Medina River happened about 7:25 a.m.

“He just said God said she wasn't driving right, and she needed to be taken off the road,” said Lt. Kyle Coleman of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the pickup was identified in a Sheriff's Office news release as Michael E. Schwab, 52, of Blooming Grove.

Schwab told first responders at the scene that “the other vehicle was not driving like a Christian and it was Jesus' will for him to punish the car,” according to the release.

The 35-year-old woman was driving her sedan north when the pickup struck her vehicle. Schwab told deputies he was driving faster than 100 mph at the time, Coleman said.

Is courteous driving the province of only Christians?

28. I think sweets was alluding to The Golden Rule.
Not slighting the driving skills of any other religion (or those without one). I believe he/she was merely saying that cutting people off, speeding, etc. is not obeying The Golden Rule.

And, no courteous driving is not the province of Christians, only, but true Christians should be courteous drivers.

38. Considering that the "Golden Rule" is a paraphrase
of something the Jewish Rabbi Hillel said when asked to provide the essence of Judaism said the following: " That which is despicable to you, do not do to your fellow, this is the whole Torah, and the rest is commentary, go and learn it."

Sorry to belabor the point but the word "Christian" does not equal good: No one faith has a monopoly on charity or kindness.

http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Quote/hillel.html

Once there was a gentile who came before Shammai, and said to him: "Convert me on the condition that you teach me the whole Torah while I stand on one foot. Shammai pushed him aside with the measuring stick he was holding. The same fellow came before Hillel, and Hillel converted him, saying: That which is despicable to you, do not do to your fellow, this is the whole Torah, and the rest is commentary, go and learn it."

Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 11:27 PM by Kalyke
No one said ONLY Christians have a monopoly on charity or kindness. You're upending the comment.

What was meant is that Christians should act in a way prescribed by Jesus and the Golden Rule, the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, etc. What is NOT implied is that other religions aren't as good or as proper or as unbeholden.

Sorry to belabor the point that you're missing.

P.S. My husband is Jewish. I certainly don't think his beliefs and opinions are any less.

20. Question...
HOW DOES ONE DRIVE LIKE A CHRISTIAN?

Does one have to exit their vehicle at every stop light to spread the word of the lord?

Does one drive up to a toll booth and instead of depositing the correct amount attempt to collect money for Jesus?

Does one terrorize other drivers with godless Obama stickers on their cars because Obama wants to kill little innocent babies?

Does one have to drive 100 mph to demonstrate their sheer exuberance in being showered in Gods love?

If it is Jesus' will that the fully loaded 18 wheeler in front of them is not driving like a "Christian" do you slam into it as well?

If you determine that the other driver is not driving like a "Christian" why punish the car? The car had nothing to do with it.
Why not follow the "un-christian" like driver and wait until they exit their vehicle and then run them over to properly punish them?

THERE IS NO INSANITY LIKE RELIGIOUS INSANITY

21. He did this before.
I was reading the comments:
The last time this happened was July 4th, 2007. This man claimed he was the Angel of David and the world was going to end on July 4th. He then indangered the lives of my family along with others. Being that he is married to my mother-in-law, which is a God fearing women, and happens to be one of the BEST women on earth in my eyes, I tried to handle the situation in the best way possible. After all said and done, he was released from our local mental institution after aprox. 3 months, once they got him back on his meds and he acted sane, only to do this again. I see absolutely no need to bash God nor the family. Anyone in their right mind that blames something as this on God, be it him or the people responsible for 9-11, is not mentally capable of taking care of themselves. Hopefully the State will see it necessary that this man is in bad enough mental shape that he needs to be locked up for the rest of his life before it turns into something MUCH worse than what happened. Once again, my deepest regrets and appologies to the person and families of the inocent victim of this horriffic accident. Thanks

Since he intentionally rammed the other vehicle. Also, his insurance company should seek reimbursement from him. This was not an "accident" it was intentional.

Period.

If that means jail, fine. If that means hospitalization and observation under professional care, fine.

But he does NOT need to be roaming around free.

If he had killed that woman, I wonder how he would have explained himself.

"Jesus told me she wasn't driving like a Christian, so she had to die."

Remember the case of the girl who got a judgment against some "christians" for exorcising her against her will? The Texas Supreme Court said that litigating against the exorcists violated their First Amendment rights.

This may be one of the few times that the insurance company may be the most moral outfit in the defense.

I love what was noted above: "Objects in mirror may be crazier than they appear."
