Do you have an NFL *FAN* in your house? How much of a *FAN*? (interesting survey results)
http://www.emqb.com/expedia-survey-reveals-how-far-football-fans-will-go-to-support-their-teams/

Offsides: Eighteen percent of pro football fans are so dedicated to their team that they could never marry a fan of their team’s biggest rivals.

Priorities, Priorities: Some fans are even willing to be a no-show at important occasions. Avoiding their own birthday party (41%), a hot date (39%), the birthday party of a friend or family member (35%) or jury duty (31%) all make their lists of acceptable occasions to skip in favor of attending a game.

Making the Grade: One-quarter of professional football fans have a better memory for pro football stats and scores than they do for birthday and anniversary dates of their friends and families.

--here is the kicker------
Great Expectations: More than four in ten professional football lovers would rather see a child of theirs become a star professional football player than win a Nobel Prize.

A hot date? So, 39% would choose a game over a chance to get layed? That's just odd...

3. How big a fan am I? I have cheered for the Detroit Lions for 47 years.
Since I was 10.

Yes, I am officially, certifiably insane.

11. Thanks. AD is great, but nobody was more exciting than Barry Sanders.
Well, Cindy Crawford, maybe, but that's apples and oranges.

Not a very good movie but you might enjoy this

Satan: I'm sorry. After careful consideration, I regretfully have to decline.
Dan Marino: C'mon, man, I'm just asking, let me win one Superbowl.
Satan: In exchange for eternal damnation of your soul? You're too nice of a guy for me to want to do that to you, Mr. Marino.
Dan Marino: You did it for Namath.
Satan: Yeah, but Joe was coming here anyways.

5. Not any more, although he's still family.
My son is a fan. He is not very dedicated to any team, although he has some he likes better than others.

He hosted Thanksgiving dinner this year. We saw about 5 minutes of each game, just to have checked in, with no particular need to watch the rest.

9. Everything Bears...except when the Simpsons have a new episode on.
Sounds like a good one tonight, even if my Bears are playing the Vikings. Lisa gets a myPod from the Mapple store.

10. (shrug) Standard stupid American-ness....
Besides - everybody knows that college football is cooler than pro. And I love them both, dearly.

I wouldn't miss my friend's birthday for it, but the rest can go to hell, if the mood strikes me. And I'd prolly just take my friend with me as his bday present, anyway.

The pro/Nobel preference is just dumb, naturally - and in no wise is simply a part of being a "fan".

13. Nothing surpasses college football
I'm starting to mourn the coming end of the regular season. It's been a great season.

I will always be a Cowboys fan (sorry all of you obsessive haters), but the pro game is really dull compared to the college game. It lacks the passion.

15. Is there a better sporting event than October in a college rivalry game, tailgating w/alum friends?
On a sunny fall day, on a college campus with the leaves turning? No, of course not. There is nothing even close. And go Michigan State in our upcoming New Year's Day bowl game.

17. I would love to go to a Big 10 game in October
The fall foliage, the crisp cool air, and just having a great time. My brother attended an Iowa game against Michigan a few years ago and he said there was nothing like it.

16. It's just a different game - much more of a chess match, since they're almost all...
about the same skill-wise and athletic-wise.

Those gems of skill or athleticism are amazing too, of course - but the chess game is what I like best about the pro game.

18. I'm a NFL fan
We were late to Thanksgiving dinner the other day because of the Seahawks game. I also scheduled our wedding for a Saturday that the University of Washington Huskies had a "bye".

My husband is used to my football obsession. Most of his friends think he's really, really lucky. ;-) After all, their wives get tired of it, and I'm talking injury reports, stats, and arguing arcane rules with them.
