23. Wow, his wishes don't have much influence in the party then, huh?
You'd think he'd be a more powerful opponent of the religious right. Nothing wrong with him saying "Pastor Warren and I have a difference of opinion on many issues and the public is well aware of this. I'd like my friend, Pastor ______ to take his place.

If not? Some leadership.

43. More likely...
...he doesn't give a shit who the hell is reading the goddamn invocation. I mean I know it's a matter of supreme importance that he should be devoting hours a day of intense thought to so that half of DU doesn't have an aneurysm over it but you know I just bet you he's getting easily distracted by little insignificant things like trying to prevent the economy from collapsing or figuring out how to get out of Iraq in a reasonably organized manner and has let that totally sidetrack him from where his REAL priority should lie, that being the earth shattering importance of which religious figure some committee is choosing to deliver a 2 minute ceremonial boilerplate address on January 20th that will be forgotten by virtually the entire nation approximately 5 minutes after it is completed. Because THAT is what really matters to the nation.

The nerve of that guy, eh? Boy I sure hope he gets his eye on the ball and starts paying attention to the top priority items soon or we're in real trouble!

in 6 days less than 6000 years ago and that two of each species fit in a boat 350 feet long and floated around until the the water which had been as high as Mt Everest receded after the flood gates covered the earth with water. That's their science.

4. I personally think this is being blown out of proportion BUT....
it's kind of ridiculous to suggest that he doesn't have any power as to who delivers the invocation. It's his inaugural, if he didn't want Warren to do it, he wouldn't be there. Period.

Anyway, commence arguing. At least we're not talking about Caroline Kennedy today.

and I'm sure the Joint Congressional Committee does too.

Joint Congressional Committee
on Inaugural Ceremonies

The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) plans and executes all Inaugural activities at the United States Capitol, including the Inaugural swearing-in ceremony of the President and Vice President of the United States and the traditional Inaugural luncheon that follows.

Upon passage of a concurrent resolution, the JCCIC is established and the members appointed. The Vice President appoints Senators and the Speaker of the House of Representatives appoints House members. The JCCIC is usually comprised of the Senate Majority Leader (at the time of appointment), the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Majority and Minority Leaders of the House of Representatives.

He needs help from the "good ole boy club". The same club that supported Liarman over LaMont (LaMont wasn't in "the club"). Yeah the same club that is terrified of Caroline Kennedy (she isn't in the club). Obama has to work with "the club". Bernie Saunders isn't in "the club" either.

Traditionally, the candidates' spiritual leader performs this function. If this child of the universe were to say, "ain't no way this cretin is going to intercede with the dead male as God in launching my administration," someone would surely listen to him. Going along to get along with failed information of what's pertinent or appropriate, what's new?

Hopefully Michelle is knitting a spine for her man and will insert it while he's sleeping, or if she has to, knock his ass down and install it.

I like the wife.
