MTB: Can We Save the Planet and Rescue the Economy at the Same Time? (Van Jones, Gore & More)
NOTE: If you have a slow connection and or you want to learn more, there are some great articles here.

Coming December 19th on Meet the Bloggers
As we look toward the new year, our economy is in crisis and our environment is in distress. What we need from our next president is a plan of action that simultaneously saves our planet from pollution and puts our economy back on track. What we need is a "green" solution.

Our guest on the next is activist and environmental leader Van Jones, author of the best-selling new book, . Jones is the founder and president of , a national organization dedicated to building an inclusive, green economy, strong enough to lift millions of people out of poverty. Jones proposes the creation of green collar jobs that do not require extensive degrees, but will allow our working population to be employed and have a more meaningful purpose in the workplace.

Tune in as Van Jones joins host Cenk Uygur, Chris Rabb (Mother Jones), and Simran Sethi (Huffington Post). This episode will be online with a live blog Friday, December 19, at 1pm ET/10am PT, and is available anytime after on . In the meantime, here's what you can do to learn more about creating green collar jobs and saving the environment:

- -- Al Gore, Mother Jones

- -- Ben Whitford, Mother Jones

- -- Tara Lohan, AlterNet

5. No, you can't
Too many people, to much pollution, and too much habitat loss. The ONLY way anyone will deal with this issue is when it is completley broke, but then it will be too late.

A 'communal' government would not work, at least here in the West. It just wouldn't. China and Japan already have sort of a communal system, so they may "inherit the earth", so to speak. Japan is already leading the way in certain robotics, and trash control (also in Rainforest Destruction, at least 12 years ago)

I don't thing we can stop more global warming. We will not stop consuming, actually, thats why all the Republican Neo-cons want 'illegal immigration', because they want more and more consumers.

The power and money people will have to find ways of making the Earth a value-wise commodity'.

That will mean clean water, safe streets, clean food, etc...

And there is only one way to get that.

12. More to the point...

Can you have Capitalism and Nature?

Don't think so.

It's ecosocialism or barbarism. Only fair distribution of wealth and a rational, planned economy offers us a chance of salvaging our rapidly deteriorating situation.
