Millions of Americans believe that 100% contradiction based on some fucked up idea that we have to cater to the bigoted right full of torturers and traitors. Oh yeh sure, let's include them in all our decisions, that's a great idea.

3. And Clinton's inauguration?
Another DU'er noted that he had Billy Graham give the invocation.

It's a good point. Graham was a noted anti-semite and anti-gay preacher.

I don't think there's a "professional preacher" out there who hasn't insulted/excluded people. These types of preachers are cynical.

6. I've always been disgusted when politicians pander to blowhard TV ministers...
...as I just posted on that other thread.

8. Ok, but Billy did not preach against Jews
he was caught on tape talking trash about Jews with Nixon, in the Oval. And while he was a hypocrite and all, he also instantly and profusely apologized for those words. Warren is making himself famous by standing by very public and out of the pulpit political statements against gays and choice advocates. Warren is noted FOR being anti-gay. Billy was ashamed of his anti-Jewish words, or at least of being caught. To pretend that was part of his public preaching is just not accurate. He was also not specifically known as an anti-gay preacher. He just wasn't. His appeal was far more traditional, and involved you, the listener, and your sin, and your walk with God, not the other guy's sin, and he never promoted anything political, and advised both Parties.
I have no love for Ghraham, but he was what he was, and he was not what Warren is. Warren just finished promoting the political actions that have put thousands in the streets around the country.

2. DUers post all the time
about going to churches that preach against abortion or women's rights or homosexuality. I've got no idea why they go, never have understood it. But they do. Even gay DUers.

4. I go to a gay-friendly congregation, but...
If people showed up and started talking there like DUers talk here, I'd totally bolt.

5. I know what you mean
I always went to church, as I was taught/told. However, when it came time to raise my children I suddenly couldn't bear the idea of having my daughter listen to the misogynistic preaching...coated in Biblespeak, of course.

It was hard to leave because you are trained to go!!!! But when it came to my children's best interests, and what I wanted them exposed to -- I walked away freely.

7. That was the final straw for me
I tried several churches, on and off, over the years. When the minister went off on jezebels with my 13 year old daughter sitting there, saying men would never want them, I stood right up in the middle of church and lost my mind. I could not even believe I was hearing that. I think I prefer Latin mass where we didn't know what the hell crazy shit the priest was saying, lol. I'm done with all of it. I'd go hear Jeremiah Wright though, any day of the week.

9. Good for you!
I get what you mean about Latin mass. The homilies we can do without!
