BREAKING: Prop. 8 sponsors seek to nullify 18,000 gay marriages
The sponsors of Proposition 8 asked the California Supreme Court on Friday to nullify the marriages of the estimated 18,000 same-sex couples who exchanged vows before voters approved the ballot initiative that outlawed gay unions.

The Yes on 8 campaign filed a brief arguing that because the new law holds that only marriages between a man and a woman are recognized or valid in California, the state can no longer recognize the existing same-sex unions.

"Proposition 8's brevity is matched by its clarity. There are no conditional clauses, exceptions, exemptions or exclusions," reads the brief co-written by Pepperdine University law school dean Kenneth Starr, the former independent counsel who investigated President Bill Clinton.

Obama is just trying to reach out...to include people who wear white sheets, want to stone homosexuals, want women to be barefoot and pregnant, want to save jews from going to hell...he just wants them to understand that we all love what they do and we should all sing Kumbaya and hold hands with them and maybe,if we do that, they will vote for him in 2012...
dont you get it??? dont you get it??? stop complaining and just wait and see...someday if you are a good little gay person and stop all this ranting and raving, we straight people might let you get married.I said 'might'. we have to check with our good friends, like Rick Warren , first..we dont want to rock the boat or anything....
sarcasm off.

16. Doesn't this violate the Prohibition against ex post facto laws?
An ex post facto law (from the Latin for "after the fact") or retroactive law, is a law that retroactively changes the legal consequences of acts committed or the legal status of facts and relationships that existed prior to the enactment of the law

37. no
nothing's being criminalized, and no one's saying they're now liable for something that was once legal.

taking away civil rights is a horrible thing for any government to do, but it's not an "ex post facto" act to do so.

now, if you took a tax break on the grounds they were married, and then a law decided that not only aren't you married but also you never were married and therefore are liable for the higher, single taxes, THAT would be ex post facto. but simply denying you the tax break going forward isn't ex post facto.

28. Well, these are the same fundies who tried to get the government
to erase the Schiavo marriage without permission of the spouses, remember?

And if that wasn't enough of a wake-up call to Americans of their true intentions, the country deserves to watch these dominionists take apart our rights.

38. Someone here made a really good point today
what about interracial marriages, there was a time when they were illegal and then there was a time when they were not recognized, just a short while back. I suppose that there are states/towns that this might still may be true ??? Instead of making the people and a good percent of the people protest, demonstrate, fight and feel inferior let's just cut to the chase and give the majority of the people what they want. It really is just a matter of time, right? I hope so. How about we have a nation wide vote and put it to an end. I would think and hope the majority of this country is in favor of it.

54. Oh good!
My 7 year old daughter chipped both of her top center permanent teeth night before last. She fell in the shower. One of them has a decent sized chunk missing. I had a pretty good melt down after that. Top it off with the having flu including laryngitis. Then I found out that my daughter's teacher has been allowing her to sit in class for the past four weeks and do virtually no work because she wants her to 'choose' to do it on her own. My daughter has trouble concentrating in school so it's not a new issue for us, but her teacher's attitude is complete indifference. When school's back in, we'll be having a very serious talk with our principal.

Thanks Bluebear  I'm feeling much better today. So far, there's no indication for a root canal (which I cannot afford but won't go into) and my dentist promised me he could make her teeth look as they did before. It's hard to think you're child's begin life with such dental problems. Of course my child is very active so I knew we might be dealing with something like this at some point. I blame myself even though it's pointless to do so. Oh, and my husband has no job starting January 1st. Gosh, I'm tired. LOL!

Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 08:12 PM by calipendence
Do they "hath no sins"?

Why do they hate people that have done nothing to them? Is that what Jesus preached to them?

I wonder if they'd turn the other cheek? What?! They say I'm accusing them of "foul behavior"? Turning the other cheek? :)

Jesus must be crying up there with pharisees like these driving people away from the church these days...

49. They're not Christians.
They think they are, but they aren't. Nobody who hates others is a Christian. Jesus said so, and quite clearly.

Now, I don't believe in any of that sky daddy stuff, but they do. Let them ponder their meeting with Jesus well.
