Oh crap! globalsecurity.org has a countdown clock for the beginning of US/Iran war
Looks like it's going to go down around Valentine's day.

No wonder Iran is trying like hell to get a comsat into orbit. They don't want military command and control to be deaf and blind after the bombing starts.

One link from this page points out that two carriers in the gulf provide the ablility to conduct continuous 24hour bombing.
We are so fucked.

19. I think the military is funded through June of 2007.
That's the end of budgeted cash for the 2007 fiscal year.

Congress should begin wrangling soon for next year's budget.

If all the Democratic Senators decide to halt funding for Iraq/Iran in next year's budget, ( I wish ) They'd still need 9 Republican Senators to overturn a point of order. (stalling tactic to prevent a budget bill from becoming law.

If the decider wants to go ahead and attack Iran, he's got the money to start a war, maybe not continue one for long though.
As far as legal justification goes, BushCo™ clearly doesn't have that. But, that hasn't stopped them in the past.

I'm sure "Dungeonmaster" Gonzalez will point to wording in the Iraq War Resolution in order to prop up their crimes.

16. "cant happen without Congress"
I truly hope that you're right, but I'm beginning to fear that no one can stop them.. When you listen (or read the transcript) of Dick's interview with ole Wolf, he sounded pretty sure of himself.. How is Congress going to stop it, in your best estimation? I'm not asking that to be a smart ass, I really would like some reassurance that these ass hats can and will be stopped.

18. you need additional money for further wars
In addition, the Dems are pushing that previous war resolutions do not include Iran. Bush attacking Iran could very well speed up impeachment hearings.

4. Everyone reading this needs to get out there on Saturday.
We need everybody we can get out there protesting, demanding an end to the war in Iraq, a stop to the planned attacks on Iran, and impeachment of our president. There's no excuse. The more people are out there protesting, the more political wind is in the sails of the Democrats in Congress, and the further they'll get in stopping the President.

Just Do It. No excuses, no complaints. If you can't make it to DC, there are protests close to home. Just get out there.

6. The doomsday clock simply means globalsecurity expects a confrontation, it doesn't mean that...
the action will necessarily go down around Valentine's Day or somewhere close to it. It simply means they're expecting trouble, which may or may not materialize.

However, the fact that there is a doomsday clock signifies that they likely feel action is closer to materializing than not.

9. This site uses a photo of the Ayatollah Khomeini in reference to Iran...
He died in 1989...

But I guess GlobalSecurity.org knows how to strike fear and hatred into Americans, even if it has to use a boogieman who died 18 years ago.

12. Important paragraph:
The Bush Administration has almost certainly not approved the timing of military operations against Iran, and consequently any projection of the probable timing of such operations is neccessarily speculative. The election of Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad as Iran's new president would appear to preclude a negotiated resolution of Iran's nuclear program. The success of strikes against Iran's WMD facilities requires both tactical and strategic surprise, so there will not be the sort of public rhetorical buildup in the weeks preceeding hostilities, of the sort that preceeded the invasion of Iraq. To the contrary, the Bush Administration will do everything within its power to deceive Iran's leaders into believing that military action is not imminent.

22. Yes, their disclaimer addresses something that has been missing
from the discussion.

There will be no visible build up. We will just wake up one day, and the end of everything will have begun.

And the current Iraq build-up is perfect cover.

That said, I just don't think they are going to do it. Iraq has too weakened our position.

20. We've had this same panic about a dozen times now, folks!
Once again: we've had at least a dozen "hard" dates for supposed war with Iran over the last three years. It's never happened. And the chances are very high that it's never going to happen, either. Yet every time it comes around, we get a thread full of PANIC SCREAM OMG SQUEEEE!!!

It's not. Going. To happen.
