NBC: Coulter isn't banned
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 07:15 PM by RamboLiberal
Following up on the news that Ann Coulter's appearance Tuesday morning on "Today" was canceled, and Drudge's report that she's been banned for life, an NBC spokesperson issued the following statement to Politico.

"We’ve had Ann Coulter on 'Today' many times, but because of the news in Washington and the Middle East, we decided to cancel her appearance tomorrow. Understanding the media as well as she does, we are sure she knows this happens from time to time. We look forward to welcoming her back in the future."

On Sean Hannity's radio show today, Coulter spoke about the "'Today' show jerking me along," and then "canceling at the last minute." Tonight, she'll be on Fox's Hannity & Colmes and tomorrow on the CBS Early Show.

Sure, bumping Coulter might be understandable due to events like the conflict in Gaza. So then why is "Today" still having Perez Hilton on tomorrow?

An NBC spokesperson said that Hilton had been booked for months. And it's true that Hilton will appear during the fourth hour, which is a less newsy portion of the show, beginning at 10 a.m. But according to Coulter's website, she was slated to appear twice: during the normal "Today" show (7 to 10 a.m.) and during the fourth hour.

Following Coulter's comments about Jews on The Big Idea in October 2007, TVNewser asked Today show anchor Matt Lauer if Coulter would be invited back to "Today:"

I think we're going to make that decision on a case by case basis. I mean, if there's something in the news that she has a vital view on, then I think we would consider having her back on. In terms of having her back on just to be outrageous, that probably wouldn't happen. She's a tough call, because you have to kind of walk a fine line. She is someone that a lot of people find outrageous, and as a result, don't want to hear her voice. And yet she does reach a lot of people, and she gets people to react. At some point you have to make a decision whether it's quality or quantity or whether it's just volume or quality. And I think we should make that on a case by case basis.
Coulter will be appearing on CBS' The Early Show tomorrow, instead.

So Coulter and Drudge are pulling a publicity stunt at NBC's expense. They should ban her now!

7. I'm amazed that a right wing site would lie like that
amazed and shocked....... like he's never done it before

:sarcasm:

Nobody ever gets 'banned' they might not get invited back
for a while. But people bought up drudge as a media news source
and bought his headline.

14. What's even more shocking is that people keep falling for it.
You'd think the system could self-regulate.

5. I certainly sent NBC an E-mail stating
that if they had banned her it was about time. In these very troubling times one thing we don't need is agitators of the mob based on accusations with no foundation.

8. "And yet . . . she gets people to react"
So would putting on a demented freak who drops trou and moons the camera. Can we plan on seeing that on the Today show sometime soon? Because I can't fathom the news item that Little Arfin' Annie would have a view on that was so "vital" that the Today show would feel compelled to give her free time to excrete her mean little squirts of bile. Because if the decision is based on quality versus volume, there's just no justification whatsoever.

11. Of course it was a publicity stunt
No network ever "bans forever" anyone - that in and of itself becomes the news and makes the person the object of publicity.

How gullible are people any way - "banned for life" - yeah right. :eyes:

Remember how she so politely handed David Frum his ass a couple of months ago? Coulter couldn't handle that battle of wits.
