don't attack me. But am I the only one who thinks that Michelle needs fashion advice? The gold outfit on Tuesday did nothing for her and the white evening gown was another disaster. Is it just me? She is a beautiful woman but someone is not dressing her the way she should be dressed, IMHO.

4. I'll split the difference with you -- loved the daytime outfit but the evening ...
not so much. I'd seen the sketches designers had suggested
and I was hoping for a shorter skirt -- not the standard
floor-length gown (with TRAIN no less!). Have to say I
didn't love the dress she wore to the prayer service,
either (a bit too casual for my taste; I liked Jill
Biden's suit better).

5. I love and adore the Obamas as well and I
had to step back and ask if I was going easy on Michelle and her clothes. But, since I dress a lot like her I must say that I think she HAS GREAT FASHION SENSE. If I had somewhere to go, I would wear the white evening gown. I thought it was beautiful. And I loved the gold outfit. It was very classic.

But there are people who agree with you. I actually think that some of the fabrics don't translate well onto television.

6. How should she be dressed? Really?
Because I want a first lady who chooses what she wants to wear and takes chances, even if others don't love it. She is not a celebrity; her livelihood doesn't depend on what she wears. Too much is made of her appearance anyway.

I thought she looked beautiful in both the lemongrass green outfit and the gown on Inauguration Day.

7. Michelle is a fashion risk taker and it's going to be great fun to see
what she gets up to.

The lemon color she wore on Tuesday was dazzling and the ball dress was too long and probably a security threat to our president.

lol

I really liked the outfit she had on at the Lincoln memorial day celebration and I really liked the one she had on at the inauguration (loved those gloves!). And many times she's looked stunning, like in the photo when she and Obama went to meet Laura and George Bush when she wore the red dress. There are countless photos of her during the campaign when she looked beautifully dressed.

I think she'll probably settle on one or two designers who make her look her best and we'll see some great outfits in the coming years.

Malia and Sasha are always lovely and look wonderful in their clothes. It's obvious to me that they have a lot of say in what they wear.

9. I really liked the Gold outfit. I wasn't so stunned by the white gown.
It made her look puffy. Not the right design for her body. A halter dress would have looked nicer, and no mid line pull. But then again, what do you say to a designer when you don't like something. I've seen some still pics that make the dress look better.. maybe the video just made it look worse. Now, Dr. Biden looked good.

36. I didn't like the white gown, either, but I saw a print photo of it today on a magazine cover.
Glancing at the magazine photo, I can see why someone would choose that gown. On TV.... :scared: it reminded me of a bedspread I had when I was a child.

lies. I don't see the inauguration primarily as a celebratory (although this year certainly felt like it!)event, celebratory would be a part of it to me, but certainly not the most significant part. She WAS dressed appropriately for a party atmosphere. It was business(y) casual, I am 30 years old and I wouldn't wear that to work, but I would wear it to a work party. Different strokes I guess. It was too much for me on a historic day.... stiletto knee highs or a short skirt... not both.

she's becoming a real fashionplate, even for the industry pros.

She has a fondness for mixing affordable sportswear for work and designer outfits for formal occasions.

Some things will work and some not, but Michelle will definitely go her own way.

21. That's exactly the point
She dresses like most American women do, or rather she uses the same stores we have access to. And she picks things that flatter her for the most part.

Her kids were dressed in J Crew outfits for the inauguration and they looked adorable.

22. Yep.. she's showing that you don't NEED to be "dressed by" designers to look & feel great
and they dress their girls like GIRLS..not "little women". they wear age-appropriate clothing, and look great..

Kids don't "need" to be dressed in thousand dollar emsembles, and First Ladies don't need to be either.

Michelle is showing that a MIX of things in a wardrobe is perfectly normal.. Style does not come with a price tag or a designer name.. You either "have it" or you don't.

She has it :)

The cost of the outfit it meaningless , if you have style..

Does Jackie look "unstylish" in this photo?

18. She's got terrific taste,
and she's also highlighting young designers, American clothing. She's got an agenda that includes far more than just how she looks.

You may not like what she wears, but the way she wears her clothes - and not the other way around (see "Pickles") is breathtaking.

In my book, she cannot make any fashion mistakes, because she's doing it just as she wants to do it while advancing other interests.

Smart, in every sense of the word.

Eat your heart out and scurry back to Barbara Bush and Nancy Reagan, Oscar de la Renta.

41. Amen brother
I wouldn't know "high fashion" if it bit me in the ass. And I'm not the least embarassed about it. I never grew up worrying about designer labels, unless the label in question had my older brother's name on it. Hand me downs were the order of the day in my family. I cannot understand this obsession with high fashion. We've got bigger problems ahead of us. If Michelle wants to set an example in these hard economic times, she can buy off the rack like the rest of us. I don't think many of here could tell the difference anyway and furthermore anyone with any intelligence would not care nor judge her for what label she wears I am told she shops off the rack quite often, so I commend her.

And in these hard economic times, whatever she buys off the rack at Target or even Wal-Mart will look good on her. I'm sorry if it seems that I am dissing the interests and concerns of others, but to be concerned and interested in what other people are wearing is, to me, the height of shallowness and vapidity in our celebrity and reality show obsessed culture. Let's work on our real problems rather than worry about what Michelle may or not be wearing or if she looks good in it. She's a beautiful woman, inside and out. That's all that matters to me.
