Senate Republicans Gearing Up To Filibuster Recovery Package Despite Promises To The Contrary»
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/01/30/gop-filibuster-recovery/

Last night on NPR’s All Things Considered, host Robert Siegel asked Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) about the prospects of a Republican filibuster of the Senate’s version of the economic recovery package. Grassley responded that Republicans would indeed filibuster the package, requiring the bill to garner a 60-vote majority for passage:

SIEGEL: By the way, Senator, we always just assume that anything in the Senate requires 60 votes because there will be a filibuster threat. Is that right? Does this bill need 60 votes to pass?

GRASSLEY: Yes.

SIEGAL: It does?

GRASSLEY: Yes.

7. My hope
and hope is where it's at, these days, is that after the Obama administration makes abundantly clear to the electorate
his willingness to be consilatory, and both houses of congress Republicants get done holding their breath in a corner-- that is when
Rahm is allowed to show them all what it feels like to have an appendage cut off.

12. Thank you very much!
Digital's economics are front loaded.

A stereo store in KC in the 70s had a sign as you walked in the door.
"Buy the best and cry once"

There are a couple of correlaries for digital cameras.

Buy the best *you can afford* at cry once.

Given a choice between the best used digital body you can afford, and a new one,
consider the used one if the best used you can afford is at the level of a pro grade body and sold through a reputable dealer.

the way it has been going, you will use the lenses a lot longer than the body anyway.
Some systems allow the use of older lenses. Not one of my primes was made after the Carter Years.
Sigma DSLRs will meter manual lenses in Ap. Priority, and the M42 adapter allows a fair number of Pentax lenses to be used, for example.

But once you have a DSLR, you will find yourself shooting hundreds of frames where you might have shot 36 before. Good things happen like that!

Keep me in the loop,
Fovea.

PS. My first figure model shoot in 20 some years...

4. Nuclear option. Or at least make them filibuster the way they did it 40 years ago.

If the Republicans feel so strongly about it, they'll have no problem reading phonebooks for days on end.

5. John Kerry has the right idea and I hope he has Obama's ear
If the republirushicans are going to obstruct anyway...don't concede ANYTHING to them.
Writing, voting and passing our own legislation will determine if we fail or if we increase public confidence.
They have shown they are not interested in bipartisanship. They have shown they are not amenable to compromise.
SO fuck them. And that fucking gasbag they rode in on.
Go nuclear and do it our way. We will do or die.
I think we can succeed.

8. This bill is too important to be killed by Republican obstructionism. Ram it down their throats,
attach it to a must pass spending bill that cannot be filibustered.

If they complain about it, tough shit. Elections have consequences.

9. They need to be painted as obstructionist
As the economy fails even further, those who vote against it need to be publicly assailed as obstructionist.
