He's the Boss. He does what he wants to do and does not do what he does not want to do.

9. You know, I asked him that |
|
And he said, "You know, grat (calls me "grat," I call him "Mr. Springsteen", it's this thing we have), I was thinkin' about singing 'Born in the USA.' But there's this one poster at Democratic Underground. His handle is 'strangerdanger' or 'rangersmith' or something like that. And I hate him. I just fuckin' hate him. So I figured I wouldn't sing it. Screw 'im, you know?"
That's the God's honest truth. Or maybe it was the eighth shot of tequila talking. I sort of can't remember now.

Born down in a dead man's town The first kick I took was when I hit the ground You end up like a dog that's been beat too much 'Til you spend half your life just covering up
Born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A.
I got in a little hometown jam And so they put a rifle in my hands Sent me off to Vietnam To go and kill the yellow man
Come back home to the refinery Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me" I go down to see the V.A. man He said "Son don't you understand"
I had a buddy at Khe Sahn Fighting off the Viet Cong They're still there, he's all gone He had a little girl in Saigon I got a picture of him in her arms
Down in the shadow of the penitentiary Out by the gas fires of the refinery I'm ten years down the road Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go
I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A.

13. Born To Run Has Always Been His Trademark Tune... |
|
I've seen the Boss perform for 3 decades now and usually that's the last song...it got moved up tonight. I was surprised to hear Glory Days (from the Born in the USA album), I hadn't heard him do that in years.
I was kinda expecting Born in the USA, but possibly the length of the song wouldn't fit in with the tight 12 minutes he had to work with.

14. I was surprised that he used "Glory Days"..... |
|
....which is kind of a downer if you pay to close attention to the lyrics, but that being said, the last part of the video showing a boy and his dad are very uplifting.

22. you know how they say there's no such thing as a stupid question? |
|
well...nobody here said that. :eyes:
that said, if you don't know much about Springsteen's music, it's not a bad question.
if you do know much about the song and the Superbowl, then the question should be easy to answer.

29. Too depressing a song if you want to pump up a crowd. |
|
Unless you are a total moron--like, say a certain crappy actor turned 40th President of the United States--you'd listen to the lyrics and understand how sad a song it is, and the irony of the lyrics.
