2. what is better is that he paid it in June 2008 when it looked like O was going to win and get him
a job.

I've seen several figures thrown around. Supposedly he owed somehwere north of 150k in back taxes that he paid along with a 25k fine. Again...supposedly is the operative word here.

No excuse for Daschele here...and IMHO, this "oversight" is a little too large to throw under the rug or claim how important he is...his nomination should be withdrawn.

Here's the rub...during the "go-go" years not just inside the beltway but for many in government and business, keeping track of money became difficult. This was especially the case if you had a good chunk of your income coming from investments or commissions. I could see an error like the one Geitner had...while significant for many, it could be an honest oversight, but when you start talking the coin Daschele "missed", that draws questions not only about his ability to keep track of his money but the people he chose to do so...not a good thing.
