Palin lied to House GOP to avoid attending their weekend retreat.»

The Note reported over the weekend that in planning for their annual winter retreat, House Republicans “extended an invitation to Alaska Gov. Sara Palin, hoping the party’s 2008 vice presidential nominee would give a morale-building speech.” Palin declined the invitation because “pressing state business made it impossible for her to leave Alaska.” Her excuse, however, was a lie:

So where is Palin this weekend? She’s in Washington, D.C., attending the super-elite Alfalfa Dinner.

“She lied to us,” said a Republican at the retreat.

Asked why Palin told the Republicans she could not leave Alaska this weekend, Palin spokesman Bill McAllister offered this non-responsive answer:

“My understanding is that the governor has not scheduled any partisan events on her current trip to D.C.,” McAllister told ABC News.

House Republicans: So low on the power curve even the failed governor of a miniscule state feels safe in snubbing them.

6. I guess she should've told them, "Thanks but no thanks"
This reminds of John McCain's decision to bail out on Letterman due to the financial crisis but hang around to do a speech/campaign event before flying back to Washington DC.

Top Secret McCain Alfalfa Dinner Jokes Revealed
By Tommy Christopher
Feb 2nd 2009 11:00AM

http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2009/02/02/top-secret-mccain-alfalfa-dinner-jokes-revealed/

As I reported earlier, The Alfalfa Club held its annual Alfalfa Dinner on Saturday. The exclusive shindig, held on the last Saturday of January to commemorate the birthday of confederate General Robert E. Lee, is traditionally attended by the President, along with a small group of business and political elites.

The Alfalfa Club also traditionally puts forth a mock nominee for President, "just for fun," who then has to speak. Since the pool reports cite only one other speaker, it seems that Senator John McCain was the lucky nominee.

Barack Obama broke the Club's code of secrecy by releasing excerpts from his remarks, and McClatchy has some of outgoing club president Joe Lieberman's remarks, but although John McCain spoke at the dinner, his remarks are not yet available.

Luckily, The Political Machine's McCain Simulator 5000 hasn't been put into storage yet, so we were able to reconstruct McCain's portion of the program:

* - So, I called Governor Palin this morning, I said, "Sarah, it's John, how would you like to go to the Alfalfa Dinner with me? (pause) McCain, John McCain."

* - President Obama is working hard to pass this stimulus bill, and after reading it, I'd say he's actually being tri-partisan about this. As in, "I'll try anything."

* - Wow, tough crowd. I feel like Goveror Paterson at the Kennedy Center Honors.

* - Governor Palin, you look lovely. Just a heads up, Andrew Sullivan is outside telling everyone it's really Bristol's dress.

* - And President Obama looks sharp as ever. If you look closely, though, you can see that the buttons on his jacket say "Click here to donate."

* - I'm really glad I scored an invite to this dinner. Rod Blagojevich offered me a ticket, but I told him, "I'm already a Senator."

Update: According to The Daily Beast, Vernon Jordan was the mock nominee. The Beast also has one of John McCain's remarks, about Jordan:"...the Washington insider who has advised every president since Lyndon Johnson. Gee, I wish he could have advised me."

.......

So Palin would rather be with the "big" wigs then her own Party members - hmmmmmmm - did we think anything less of her?
