Phil Says "Six More Weeks of Winter!"

Phil's official forecast as read February 2nd, 2009 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob:

Hear Ye Hear Ye
On Gobbler's Knob this glorious Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2009

Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators

Awoke to the call of President Bill Cooper

And greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths

After casting a joyful eye towards thousands of his faithful followers,

Phil proclaimed that his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers were World Champions one more time

And a bright sky above me

Showed my shadow beside me.

So 6 more weeks of winter it will be.

Scenes from the morning of February 2nd, 2009:

13. In the tropics, it's called the wet season and dry season
In the upper Midwest, it's called Winter and August.

3. Actually, Octorara Orphie is the one true Groundhog Prognosticator
Seriously...I grew up right near Orphie and he totally rocks! :)

Orphie's outlook: Punxsutawney Phil is a fraud.

Oh, and there will be six more weeks of winter.

While Orphie and Phil agree on their Groundhog Day forecasts this year, the members of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge of Quarryville took issue with "that other" groundhog this morning as they celebrated the forecasting powers of their own Octoraro Orphie.

"This is the real McCoy. All you Punxsutawneys, all you Happy Harrys, all you Wiarton Willies elsewhere can be debunked and retired," proclaimed one broadside from a member of the lodge's SNOOP Squad (Superior Nocturnal Organization for the Opposition to Phil).

5. Wiarton Willie concurs
His Shadow Did Appear

There was a shadow on the ground
Which means that spring will not come round.
Six more weeks of winter fun.
Hopefully we’ll see some sun.

8. Spring
A very wise woman, my grandma, once told me, "Spring will come in 4 to 6 weeks no matter what the groundhog says" and she's right, it's a little over 6 weeks to March 20 every year. :)

I always tell my kids February is a short month and there are nearly always some nice days in March so we are definitely on the down hill side. I'm having cabin fever really bad right now but we have had a few warm days lately.

I'll take the sunshine today and forget about old Phil. Any day that we can get sunshine in the winter is a good day!

14. Well, good news...here in Orlando FL I woke up early this morning to overcast skies
...then it got grey and dark around 10:30am and by 11:00am it was raining. The rain hasn't stopped since and now it's 2:42pm and the rain is coming down harder than ever. You know what that means?

NO SUNSHINE SO FAR TODAY! Our Florida winter just may be at an end today :bounce: :toast:

Book your Orlando FL vacations now. There are lots of bargains on rooms.
