Super bowl ads...violent, creepy and desperate.....
That is what I got from the ads....

3 out of 4 were disturbing...the the 3d hype was really dumb.

3d glasses were dumb in the 50's and it still is.

1. And sexist. Don't forget sexist!
Apparently, women showing love to vegetables is a no-no but two chicks being forced to shower together at the whim of a man is perfectly acceptable. Sigh.

34. Seriously - no to mention the dorito's crunch that tore a woman's clothes off
I'm wondering if the PETA ad was truly submitted, or if the 'denial' was just a marketing ploy. Because the PETA ad wasn't much more shocking than what we saw (and not any less offensive, either)...

3. And not funny, either.
Comic value was the only saving grace that could have been applied, and it wasn't in evidence, either.

The only SB commercial I liked was the one with the horse playing fetch. The rest, quite frankly, stunk up the screen something fierce, offended me, or both.

4. I missed most of them
Personally used the commercial breaks to restock on food and beverages and use the facilities. There was an outbreak of laughter at one point and I was told something about talking flowers. But I have to say that my 7 year old got a big kick out of the 3D. Spent all of halftime replaying it for him. He enjoyed it and my guess is that that is the movies target audience. I agree with you about the 3D glasses but guarantee I will be at the movies opening weekend with my son and glasses on. Oh joy.............

9. Well, I missed the entire game. Who won?
My interest in knowing the winner is purely academic, as football bores the shit out of me.

12. Steelers won.
First half was pretty poor football until the last play when a Pitt defensive linemen ran an interception back 100 yards. Ever watch a 300 lb. man run 100 yards while avoiding 11 guys trying to bring him down?

Anyway, the second half was great and the Steelers came from behind after being up 13 to win it with about 35 seconds left. All in all it was a very entertaining game.

22. I would say Hyundai, but possibly Hulu.
Ford, on the other hand, had no better idea.

Oh, the football game! Steelers 27-23, winning TD coming with 35 seconds left.

5. The hype around the ads surpasses the hype around the game.

24. Yes, the corporations certainly do rule, with the slaves joyful consent.
I made the mistake of miscalculating my beer supply Sunday, and, living in a state with leftover blue laws concerning alcohol, was forced to toddle out to my local SPORTS BAR, Vonnegut have mercy, and watch the game. Good game, horrible experience. The place was packed with good double-Y chromosome specials. A bellowing, booze-soaked, mustached, baseball-capped sea of churning sauropods, interspersed with their squealing, Peachtree-drenched mates. A scene of horror unparalleled since the 1972 Republican convention. The really disturbing thing about this yahoo-fest was the reaction of these reptiles to the commercial stimuli hammering at them from all 17 large-screen tvs strategically placed around the joint. These people may have gathered to watch the game, but when the ads came on they went absolutely nuts. The females screeched with laughter at Corporate Humor, cooed at Corporate Cuteness, and wept tears of pure gin at Corporate Maudlin Emotionalism. The males focused intently at the screens, nodded significantly, grunted loudly and repeated "that's real funny, that's real good", between swills of Bud Light. I guzzled my $5.00 pint of Bass flavored with Palmolive and headed for the door before the time portal reopened and whirled the whole building back to the Paleolithic. What a nightmare. Idiot canines slobbering and barking at each other over which of Pavlov's bells best stimulated their salivary glands. I left the place a sadder, even more curmudgeonly old socialist dog than when I went in. Jeezus. Something has to be done. Rise up, Progressive America! Organize revolutionary committees and liberate the local Baseball n' Brew!

32. I know

I'm going to miss my former moniker. It's from a joke another
musician made about me.

My most embarrassing moment on DU came when I was in the midst of threads about kids (IIRC) and had a houseful of teenage kids and someone posted "Rave on" as a response to something I was posting.

I completely forgot about BH's Rave On because the word "rave" had been used in a much different context in my world at that time.

So I said, "Huh?"

That was the moment I realized I was getting senile.

RIP Buddy :patriot:

And RAVE ON!

17. I found some of them violent, creepy, desperate, and funny.
I really enjoyed some of the most-disturbing ones.

By contrast, the 3D ads were a wash -- just like 3D movies mostly have been.

However, the 3D version of 'Dial M for Murder' was great -- having a good movie as its base. I remember seeing it in 3D years ago: when the person on the phone is being strangled, the struggling hand jumps right out of the screen towards the audience.

19. Corporate America just self imploding.
They have been spending too much time going bat shit loony, because nobody can afford their shit anymore.

They have forgotten Henry Ford's rule, that if you employ workers and pay your people well, then they can afford to buy your product too.

25. The ads stunk. The game was great.
Violent, sexist, stupid, unfunny, dull, unclever ads. Took away from a great football game and made it hard to enjoy. Well-matched teams. A classic confrontation of muscle vs. throwing/receiving skill. A surprise a minute, down to the wire. Skill team (underdog)'s defense line kept them in the game. Muscle team produced awesome feats of throwing, catching and running. Underdog roars back, also shows awesome skill. Both sides did well. There should have been two trophies. But you had to endure the toxic waste of our looted empire, in the form of those awful commercials, constantly interrupting the sports players good show.
