I can understand the "fairness".

I cannot recall us having been shown any fairness by Republicans for the last 28 years.

3. Full fledged crock of shit if you ask me
First off a Republican should not be appointed to a Democratic Cabinet and second off no Democratic Governor should be coerced into appointing a Republican because it is politically expedient.

7. Blago Got Impeached For Just Trying To Cut A Deal For The Senate Seat........
looks like this Governor actually consummated a deal for the seat.

What's wrong with this picture.

Is this what Blago was trying to tell us? This is how they swing in politics.

Problem is that Blago didn't have the support by his colleagues - this Gov has his back covered.

5. The Republicans would do the same
They would appoint a Democrat if the shoe was on the other foot:sarcasm:

6. Depends on who they appoint
If they appoint a moderate who will work with the democratic party on some of their agenda, and who will lose reelection in 2010 only to be replaced by a democrat then I say have at it. A fairly unknown replacement may be easier to unseat than Gregg in 2010.

9. There is no fairness.
The people of NH have turned out both republican congressmen and a sitting senator over the last four years while capturing the governor's office and control of the legislature. Exactly what fairness is that again?

What would be fair is to have any replacement be elected by the citizens of the state rather than arranged through some quid pro quo backroom deal.

10. Feel the same way
Fairness is certainly a good thing, but particularly after the last eight years, I believe that Dems are going to have to learn to "get down and get dirty" on some things in order to beat the Repukes.

Niceness is not going to be remembered nor rewarded when the tables are turned.

12. Then what's the point of putting Gregg in Commerce?
He has not experience that would make him a good Commerce secretary. He hasn't been particularly friendly to the Dems. He adds nothing of value to the cabinet.

The only possible justification for passing over a hundred qualified Dems to put him in is to get the Senate seat.

I'm still mystified as to why they want him in the cabinet. When it looked like it would get us a filibuster proof Senate, it kind of made sense. Now, it's just stupid.

15. The real question is do you want Gregg at Commerce
If you do, giving him the knowledge that the Senate will not change in partisan composition is an incredibly small price to pay considering if you don't give it to him, it stays the same anyway.

16. If things were reversed, would a Republican governor appoint a Dem?
I think not. Lynch will lose our votes if he appoints a Republican.

17. It might be assumed that a Dem
could/would win the seat in 2010, but to me it doesn't matter. If Lynch intends to replace Gregg with a republican, the administration should not offer Gregg the position. I refuse to believe there isn't a better qualified democrat for Commerce Secretary.
