Fla Gov Charlie Crist to Appoint Himself To Senate Seat....
NBC-2 News in Ft. Myers is reporting that Sen Mel Martinez (R) Florida may not finish his term.

If this happens, Gov Charlie Crist will appoint himself to the Senate seat and Lt. Gov Jeff Kottkamp would take over as Governor.

Hey, Dude, the least you could do is post the job on EBAY? Give someone else a chance.

I would like to nominate the best person I know for US Senate.. ME. Hard working, smart, able to spend TARP funds in a single bound...

16. now THAT the senate might well have blocked!
or more precisely, they might have seated him (having no legal basis to prevent this) and then immediately kicked him out (which they can by a vote).

29. If that were true what would stop the Senate from kicking out anyone?
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 07:14 PM by AZ Criminal JD
Why can't the Democrats kick out all of the Republicans? They have the votes and by your theory nothing would stop them.

34. well, for starters, it takes a 2/3rds vote.
even if a party were to muster 67 seats in the senate, it would set a precedent that they wouldn't want. nor would they need it, with that kind of majority the other 33 are irrelevant.

19. I wouldn't go that far.
He's still a repuke, he's just not as insane as the rest of them down here.

Now the Dem that he beat (Jim Davis) was a real DINO.

I don't know, but they say he refused to criticize Obama throughout the Campaign. Not sure its true though. I know if it is. Thats a breath of fresh air from Martinez.

27. Former Gov. Bob Martinez called it a "family" affair!
are they both closeted? have to wonder. http://www.floridatoday.com/article/20081213/NEWS01/812130320/1006

he's clearly running, as was the plan all along, for senate in 2 years, b/c he's somewhat popular, and then they still hold onto the gov.

make me sick... as a Gay guy, I wish someone would expose him for the fraud he is. Republicans who hide their sexuality make me vomit. He doesn't want to be the first openly gay Republican elected to such a big job, cuz he knows they'd never back him again... they're bigots.

40. It seems to be a Floridian thing
.. and it's always an open secret. When Foley was a representative (and enjoyed fairly broad support among Dems, by the way), he'd appear on campaign fliers next to a gorgeous woman and small kids. The truth was widely known -- the woman was his sister and the kids were his nieces and nephews.

Apparantly it's OK to be gay in the Republican party as long as you don't get caught.

Of course, a straight man in diapers with a hooker is normal-as-can-be.

36. Finally?
Some wags in SC took out a billboard that read "Congratulations Lindsey Graham! America's First Gay Senator." Can't for the life of me find the link, but that's at least as well-founded as the rumors about Crist.
