April Ryan asked WH Press Secretary Gibbs: "Why has Obama not met with Congressional Black Caucus?
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 06:15 PM by KoKo
He hemmed and hawed...he sputtered and finally said "I don't have the President's forward schedule for the next month."

DISGUSTING! OBAMA HAS MET WITH REPUGS OVER AND OVER...but NOT with the CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS? The most LIBERAL of the DEMS? What is he WAITING FOR? April has to ASK?

Here's April's Background...(BTW: Many of you might remember April (along with Helen Thomas) the most Probing Questions of all Bush WH Press Secretaries through the EIGHT YEARS THAT DISGUSTING "POS" (who was our "selected" President) was in Power!

April's BIO:

----

April Ryan, White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks (AURN), is a 23-year journalism veteran who has worked in that capacity since January 1997. During her tenure as White House correspondent, Ryan has conducted one-on-one interviews with President George W. Bush, First Lady Laura Bush, President Bill Clinton, Senator Hillary Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, Senator John Kerry, Senator Barack Obama and a host of other dignitaries. Ryan has been credited by a White House historian as having the most radio interviews with President Bill Clinton during his White House years.

In February of 2008, Ryan conducted an exclusive interview on Africa with President Bush in the White House Oval Office. Ryan also conducted a one-on-one with South African President Thabo Mbeki. She has traveled to Africa on numerous Presidential missions with President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore and President George W. Bush. Ryan’s exclusive coverage of Presidential visits to Africa and first-hand viewpoints were utilized in a 10-part AURN series that centered on Clinton's historic six nations African tour and was broadcast in June 1998. An exclusive interview with then First Lady Hillary Clinton followed and excerpts from the interview were not only broadcast in the news on AURN's SBN and AUN networks, but was also featured on the CBS evening news, among other national television and radio broadcasts.

Ryan traveled aboard Air Force One and interviewed President and Mrs. Bush while flying to the Gulf Coast for the Hurricane Katrina one year anniversary. In 2006, Ryan traveled with the First Lady to Mississippi where Mrs. Bush met with New Orleans Hurricane Katrina survivors. In September 2005, Ryan flew to Haiti with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and reported on America’s support for democratic elections and while there – due to the volatile political climate – was under the protection of the United Nations Blue Helmet Security forces. .

In addition to her White House coverage, Ryan also hosts “The White House Report,” a daily feature broadcast over hundreds of AURN affiliated stations nationwide. The Baltimore native has also utilized her journalistic prowess beyond the steps of Capitol Hill and has traveled to China and Switzerland for newsworthy events. In September 2005, Ryan’s breaking news coverage with First Lady Laura Bush was also highlighted on NBC’s Today show. Additionally, many of Ryan’s breaking news stories and interviews have also been spotlighted on ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and FOX as well as in some of the nation’s top newspapers.

Ryan is an esteemed member of the National Press Club and serves on the newsmakers committee. She has also garnered numerous professional accolades to include receiving an American Swiss Foundation Young Leader Award in 2004 and being named one of the Outstanding Young Women in America in 1997.

Ryan began her radio career in Baltimore, MD where she worked for several radio stations including WXYV-FM where she served as news director. She is a graduate of Morgan State University and resides in Maryland with her husband and two daughters.

11. Back Seat? Huh? He hasn't spoken with individual groups like this yet.
He's spoken to the Republicans as a whole and the Democrats as a whole. And then the leaders of each party.

Again I'm sure the Hispanic Caucus, the Blue Dog Caucus, etc.....would like meetings but he's trying to get this package passed.

The CBC will vote with the President, just as they always vote with the Dem President. He has to win over the opposition. What, pray tell, would he need to meet with the CBC about, at this stage? For a photo op? You and Ms. Ryan (even with her esteemed resume) need to get over yourselves.

Biggest economic crisis since Great Depression
Iraq

Just to name a few. Which one of these would you say is a lesser priority?

34. How do you know it's not a priority? And why should it be, anyway?
Maybe it's a priority, but, given the economic and war-based bullshit in the world going on, maybe it's not a fucking TOP priority.

I sure as hell don't think it is. Obama has a country to keep from sinking right now. Bail water first and plug holes. Then he can go hang out with the passengers.

And perhaps the even greater question is - should we be poutraged about it, or should we ask the Progressive Democratic Caucus if they're outraged?

Because if they don't care, then you look pretty goddamned silly winding your underwear up over this.

50. He's been in office TWO WEEKS. I can think of a couple of things that are much higher priorities
For starters, trying to get something done about the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression. Then there is Guantanamo, trying to undo a lot of the policies his predecessor put in place. Let's not forget about the Israeli/Gaza conflict, Iraq, Afghanistan, the severe cold weather in Kentucky and other parts of the country, etc.

Gee, do you think that perhaps Obama might have a few higher priorities right now than to meet with the Congressional Black Caucus? Just because he hasn't met with them YET, why would anybody assume that he is deliberately snubbing them?

Just because he hasn't done so yet, do you really think there's some ulterior motive there? That he's deliberately snubbing them?

As for meeting with rethugs, could it be that he's doing so because he's the President, and that's one of the things that Presidents do - meet with members of the opposition party? And perhaps that he's trying to get this economic stimulus bill passed, and he's trying to get their support?

for the country? She's useless as is David Gregory. I'm sure David Gregory would at least understand how the President is paid.

Asking a question regarding meeting with the congressional black caucus, two weeks into the presidency is downright dumb. Has some sort of invitation been put out there that the President isn't responding to? Why should he meet with the black caucus opposed to the Hispanic caucus?

That question was divisive and not bright. She was just searching for something to ask and instead of asking a bright question she chose yet another dumb one.

61. That's because Tavis was too busy kissing Clinton ass, and Obama
didn't need him to reach out the black community. I don't know, but somewhere along the line Tavis became convinced that he was some sort of black opinion leader, and he got dealt a reality check during the primary season. I doubt Tavis has much of an audience left. He's got a lot of fence mending to do. Personally, he's dead to me.

54. Black Caucus is the legitimate part of the Democratic Party --
it knows what's going on and acts like it --!!!

They have quite some stories to tell, if only someone would let them!!

63. What I'm more curious about is why YOU care about his meeting with this one particular
group - the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Inc.? I'm curious....and you probably have an extremely good reason.

65. I am already sick of this "reporter"
an ignorant POS who just tries to stir up anti-Obama crap at a time when this country has serious problems. She is the one who insisted Obama's salary be cut because he put a pay freeze on staff making 100K or more. Now this.

I bet she thinks these are "tough questions."

How do these people rise so high? Oh, I know. The Chimpadministration.
