DUer Longhorn has passed away.

A message passed to me by one of Longhorn's (Kendra) daughters in response to a PM I had sent her:

At 9:10PM on Sunday, February 1, 2009, our mom, wife, daughter, sister, niece, friend, teacher, mentor, Kendra Joann Kahn, took her last breath. She was surrounded by family and friends and left us quietly and peacefully. Her battle has finally come to an end. She will be loved and missed until the end of our days and she will never be forgotten.

My dad, sisters, brother and I will hold a remembrance day in her honor next Saturday, February 7 at my parents' house in Dripping Springs. We would love to see and meet anyone who's life she has touched. This will be a time to share stories and memories or even to get to know her for the first time. Please forward this to anyone I have missed who you feel might like to know. We would like everyone to feel free to stop by anytime after 1:00PM on Saturday and stay for as long as you like. Of course we will do our best to help make arrangements for our out of town friends and family.

I would like to express again the gratitude we feel toward all of you for sharing your love, support, and strength through this painful time. I would also like to repeat our request that, in lieu of flowers, you make a donation to Hospice Austin's Christopher House where my mom was cared for and kept comfortable for her final days. Throughout this experience we have met some of the kindest, most caring people with what I consider to be one of the most emotionally draining jobs that exists. We are grateful to them all for what they do and for who they are, as we are to all of you, our friends and family.

I know she was terribly ill but without being able to see her physically it was so hard to assess how debiltated she was. She always seemed so lively in her posts here and across the boards.

Kendra never knew how much I enjoyed her posts and her spirit. She never knew I smiled when I saw her posting in C & B. She never knew I thought of meals I would have cooked for her to spark her appetite.

I sent her a picture of the project when it was completed, and she recognized the tropical plants. When they bloom in spring, I will think of her.

Not sure this is relevant, but my daughter's name is Kendra, and many years ago I recall reading a novel based in an Australian town whose main character was named Kendra. I can't tell you how grieved I am to hear this. She was one of the kindest people around. We talked often and shared PM's about her cancer and life in general. She was always so upbeat and positive every single conversation. If she ever felt bad, she never let it show. I had such hopes that she would beat the disease that was plaguing her.

She will be greatly missed and thought of often with much love and warmth.

I wish her family and those close to her, and I know they had to be many, the peace that comes with the wonderful memories of who she was and how she lived her life and knowing that her pain and suffering are no more.

:cry: We have lost a beautiful soul! I knew Kendra from the mod forum, and she was always compassionate and upbeat. I understood she was sick, but she didn't let on how very sick she must have been when I last posted with her. I loved her sig line image, of the cowboy boot with the cowgirl shooting off a pistol on it. Just that image alone showed me that Kendra was exactly what (and who) a cool woman from Texas should be. I'm sure she passed peacefully, even if she was awake and in physical pain, because I know she was surrounded with so much love and support from her family and friends.

Rest in peace, Dear Kendra. You'll be dearly missed on DU and every place you touched with your love. I picture you now as a shooting star in the big Texas sky, lighting up even downtown Austin as you move on to your next great adventure.

I knew Kendra from the Pets Forum. I knew she was a dog lover but did not know that she was so ill. She supported my rescue group by buying bandanas for the dogs including the custom made Texas Tech ones I did for her in the Fall.

As you can tell from the posts here, she will be sorely missed by so many DU'ers whose lives she touched in cyber space and in real life.


Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
