Free Breakfast! Today Only - Denny's
Edited on Tue Feb-03-09 06:09 AM by Le Taz Hot
Denny's is offering a free Grand Slam Breakfast today only from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. Apparently, customers will also be receiving a coupon book good for discounts and additional free meals. This is promotional to "re-introduce" people to Denny's. OK, I know it's not exactly haute cuisine, but I can't think of anything better than a free meal in these hard times. Plus it's a Grand Slam which means a LOT of food so you can probably get 2 meals out of it. Anyway, here's the website with the information:

http://www.dennys.com/

P.S. Could we keep this kicked? Thanks.

1. I hope they can handle the crowds
and no one gets trampled. I'm sure there will be lots of pix.

4. I'm not sure your fears are realistic.
You are, of course, referring to the trampling at Christmas of that Wal Mart temp worker. The people there were trampling each other (as horrid as that was) to be the FIRST to get to deals on merchandise. This will be going on for 8 hours. I'm sorry, I have to say this, I thought this post would be a GOOD thing for hungry people everywhere. :wtf:

7. True, it will be going on for eight hours, but some people will want to eat and get out
in time for work.

In short, there's going to be chaos any way you slice it. Not saying anyone will necessarily get killed, or that free food is ever bad, but there you have it.

As they used to say on Hill Street Blues, "Let's be careful out there."

there is ZERO spaces at the Denny's 300 feet from my condo that I just drove by - there are cars honking at the people trying to get in, but there are no spaces - it's not even 7am and it looks like a fair over there - so yes, like I said, pandemonium - the retirees are out in full force. so forget the seeing how it would be at 6, ha! hey, maybe later in the day - then again, I don't see it slowing down much since I'm in a tourist town. A free meal in these times is a big deal - hope someone hear gets lucky and gets one!

14. It is a very GOOD thing for hungry people
but given the number of hungry people everywhere it is not unrealistic to hope that there is no chaos.
I think it's a great idea and have no doubt that the level of television coverage will be well worth the investment in good will. Remember Denny's is doing this as a promotional venture. Kudos to them for a creative approach to advertising when people are in need.

By the way how long do you expect the lines to be and what does that mean for traffic?

16. Post #8 indicates there are already long lines.
They may or may not taper off during the day and the lines may vary depending upon how many Denny's are in your particular area. All I know is there are a lot of hungry people in this country and if they have to stand in line an hour or so, at least they'll get fed.

20. Thanks
Although, one name jumped out at me. I thought Bill Knapps went bust 7 years ago. Remember going there for birthdays as a kid. Despite all the jokes about it being "God's waiting room" I thought is what still pretty good. :)

15. No Denny's anywhere near Columbus, Ohio.
I thought we had at least one here, but I guess not. They all seem to be in small towns in this area.

17. One last kick.
The local news just featured one of our many Local Denny's. They are busy but no impossible lines. At least not yet. I hope as many people as possible can take advantage of this today. Even if you don't, maybe you know someone that it would benefit.

Thanks,
LTH
