Okay, I have to say this: How wonderful is it to call the White House and talk to a REAL PERSON?

I just called to register my support for Howard Dean for HHS secretary, and I spoke with a person! No voice mail. I had to hold, but I was happy to do it!

How was YOUR experience calling the White House? After all, our government is open for business again!

3. Ya, it shocked me a bit too. The matronly lady I spoke to said that they volunteer...
...to do the job. I called bitching about Bush doing something to fuck the world up. Anyway, she was very nice and even agreed that Bush was a soul-fucking bastard (in a sweet, matronly sort of way) and took my comments. Then we chatted about this or that for a moment, I thanked her and disconnected.

It was an entirely pleasant experience.

6. If we lived closer to DC, I would volunteer!
Yeah, there'd be some frothing at the mouth Republicans, but how fun to talk with the people who are making constructive suggestions!

4. Those poor operators are career civil servants. One of the ladies who
worked there since the Kennedy-Johnson era just retired recently.

They're very professional, and very polite. It doesn't matter who the President is--they do the same capable job.
