MySpace: 90,000 sex offenders removed from site
Holy shit!

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9649N380&show_article=1

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - MySpace officials say about 90,000 sex offenders have been identified and removed from its huge online social networking Web site.
North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper said Tuesday the new figure is nearly double what MySpace officials originally acknowledged last year when detailing who had used their site.

Cooper and Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal have led the charge seeking efforts to make social networking Web sites safer. MySpace officials sent the numbers to Blumenthal's office Tuesday.

Last year, the attorneys general received agreements from MySpace and rival online networking site Facebook to push toward making their sites safer for young users. Both implemented dozens of safeguards, including limiting how older users can search members under 18.

3. not all sex offenders are sex offenders against children
I mean, that term doesn't mean they are child molesters. Some, but not all. I'm not arguing they shouldn't be removed from MySpace, btw.

7. I too was wondering how they positively identifed that many
people, absent SSN's or birthdates. Photos wouldn't suffice. But I guess myspace would have the URL's of everyone who's registered (much like DU does), and could get personal information that way via subpoena from ISP's...? Is that how it would work? My brain hurts.

15. What happened to "served their time"?
I think this sets a a really bad precedent. It's one thing for the gov't to restrict somebody but it's something else for a corp. to do it.

16. You have a right to privacy. You have a right to a good education. You have a right to paaaarrrteee.
You don't have a right to use Facebook. If they don't want convicted sex offenders on their site, I don't see why they should keep them on.

Great to see the child molesters and rapists off but parameters are everything.
