Teacher quits after hitting pizza-grabbing student
Teacher quits after hitting pizza-grabbing student

Tuesday, February 03, 2009

A Marietta elementary school special education teacher who resigned after allegedly slapping a student for getting an extra piece of pizza told investigators she also hit a child in a previous job.

Angela Lynette Franklin, 39, was charged with simple battery for hitting an 11-year-old boy in the lunch room at Fair Oaks Elementary in December, according to her arrest warrant.

Franklin, of Austell, resigned her position on Jan. 7 and was arrested by Cobb County police the following day. She was released on $1,000 bond.

“This is not Picadilly,” Franklin is accused of telling the child after she hit him on the arm Dec. 16.

Franklin then put the extra slice of pizza back on the counter, the warrant states. Three food service assistants reported the incident to the principal. Franklin was placed on administrative leave with pay while the incident was investigated.

6. As someone who aspires to be a teacher when I retire from the Navy...
...I wonder what I would do in this situation. Let me see. Nope. Slapping a student doesn't come to mind. She's clearly not cut out for teaching.
