Walmart Greeter Attacked By Cop During Receipt Check Suing For $21 Million
Seventy-one year old Bill Walker says he's suing an off-duty Chattanooga police officer and the Chattanoog Police Department for 21 million dollars in a federal damage lawsuit.

Walker, a greeter at the Collegedale Wal-Mart, says he was shoved to the ground, and knocked unconscious by officer Kenneth Freeman. This happened Christmas Eve. Walker says as Freeman was leaving the store, he asked to see the officer's receipt. He says Freemen didn't stop so he reached out, and touched Freeman's arm to get his attention. It was at that point Freeman hit Walker knocking Walker off of his feet. That is evident in the surveillance video you can watch on NewsChannel9.com.

Freeman has not been charged, but he has been suspended 28 days without pay for conduct unbecoming an officer, execessive use of force and improper procedure. That's the maximum penalty an officer can receive before being fired.

18. So if the guy goes nuts and kills his wife, the police force is at fault?
I'm not buying that. It's called personal responsibility. If he was on the clock - then yes. But he wasn't, nor was he acting in any official capacity.

3. Where does a cop get $21,000,000? At most, he'll be able to pay out a six-figure sum. nt

4. Sadly, the municipality will be liable, which means taxpayers will end up paying
whatever the settlement turns out to be, or they probably belong to a self insurance pool.

cover this.

I've received all kinds of MP training while in the Navy, and never would I do something like that. Pushing down an old man? :wtf:

If I knocked out and old man for no reason, they'd a thrown my ass in jail, and rightfully so.

11. So a man who shouldn't be working anymore gets a chance at a fantastic retirement sum
only at the expense of the taxpayer after a civil servant uses force on him most likely because those in his profession have been given far too many abilities to nullify civil rights through use of brunt force and it went to his head..

Did I get that right...granted the last part is sort of a reach.

and not barely eke by by saving mere pennies that he gets from Social Security so he can afford meds, pay the rent, get utilities, etc....

I have seen a greeter or two who really don't want to work but have to due to our delightful social structure. Elderly folks all.

15. No, you didn't.
What does "nullifying civil rights" have to do with anything in this matter? And it's "blunt" force, not "brunt" force. And why should the old man not be working?

Boost a little too far.

And thanks for catching the spelling. I totally took that one a stretch to far.

17. We've probably had this discussion before, but I can't remember the answer.
Is a Walmart greeter allowed to physically touch you, or try to apprehend you?

I'm really just curious. In no way do I condone what that officer did - he should be ashamed of himself, knocking an old man down.

21. NO.
Once you have paid for the Items, they are yours and the merchant has no right to touch them. The only exception is clubs like BJs where receipt checking is part of the membership agreement.

22. Is anybody allowed to tap a person on the shoulder to get their attention?
What sort of society have we become? Why didn't the cop just shoot the guy, or at the very least taser him to death? The gall, touching someone on the shoulder to get their attention..

but this is what happens when a company treats its customers like thieves.
