Alaskan Representative uses Intuition to determine we are not being gouged on gas prices
When everyone else was complaining about their gas prices this summer, our prices hit $5.00 per gallon, the highest in the nation which prompted many Alaskans to demand an explanation. The 'report' written by one person was finally completed and it is full of "we think, it seems, my intuition tells me"....but includes no facts! And you thought Sarah Palin was corrupt... check out the comments, people are pissed off!!

http://www.adn.com/news/government/legislature/story/676924.html

Committee Chairman Jay Ramras, R-Fairbanks, said the committee's findings are based on intuition after spending four months researching and gathering testimony on the issue.

"It seems that in order for refineries to maintain their competitive position in the global jet aviation market, they have to shift costs on to a much smaller more fragile consumer retail gasoline market," Ramras said.

"We don't think there's any illegal activity going on....

The state consistently records the highest gasoline prices in the nation even as oil prices are dropping. As of last October, gas prices were a full 71 cents above Seattle prices and 98 cents above the national average. Historically gas prices in the state have tended to be closer to 10 cents per gallon higher than the average.

The economic impact on Alaskans has been devastating to residents and industries in the state, especially in rural areas where fuel costs are astronomical. High transportation costs also have driven up the price of consumer goods around the state.

Has anyone ever heard of a 'report' being written by one guy based on his intuition which tells him that nothing illegal is going on. Aren't these things normally determined by financial experts who examine the facts in the situation? This guy is in the pocket of the oil industry and apparently we are going to keep getting screwed!

2. Yep, some jail time
Would really make a difference, say about 5 to 10 years, along with million dollar fines if convicted of fraud!

3. And gas in Anchorage is $.20 a gal cheaper than Juneau, the Capital city.
It cost more to barge fuel to Anchorage than to Juneau as it is another thousand miles yet their prices are consistantly cheaper than Southeast Alaska. This aviation fuel thing is just plain bullshit as it has absolutely nothing to do with Southeast Alaska.

5. Okay, Is this comment from a DUer?
"Based on INTUITION!, we don't THINK there is any illegal activity going on! we THINK the jet fuel business is 10%! HISTORICALLY gas prices have been 10 cents more than lower 48! WARNS against luring another refinery to come to AK for fear it will drive an existing facility out of business!

What kind of report is this? 4 months and all they can do is THINK and use thier inept INTUITION? and WARN about luring another company up here for FEAR of putting out of business an existing one! Good Grief! These legislatures aparently are inept in thier job and favor the existing THIEVES in this industry instead of We the People! Very obvious to me these Legislators need to go. To subsidize the likes of the HUGE world air carriers on our backs is plain WRONG! I assure you I will not vote again for any of these inept idiots. They can't even complete a report after 4 months with any fact, just INTUITION and we THINK! That would be an F grade turning in a report like this in GRADE SCHOOL!"

6. The dumbing down of our politicians
The weird thing is that this report was so pathetic, this guy actually thought that he'd get by with that? Either he is really really stupid or he thinks we are.
