I'm curious if Skinner ever wonders "What the FUCK was I thinking?"
DU has become, without question, the #1 progressive message board on the web, but we spend an inordinate amount of bandwidth demonstrating that Democrats (or those posing as same) have approximately the same percentage of rigid ideologues, ass holes, and whack jobs as the rest of the population.

Note to mods: I'm not calling out ANYBODY. I have scrupulously avoided mentioning any position on any issue, but if the foo shits ...

an inordinate amount of time picking my nose but never thought a website about it would succeed. Skinner had a plan.

9. As a junior, I got into a grad level psych class,
and trained rats to behave in certain ways. Everyone else used food. I used pot to get them hungry first. They were a standard deviation ahead of the rest of the rats.

Then, pain avoidance was introduced. my good friends fell within the norm.

but if he were to comment on it, it would be gentle and with great humor. He's a great guy.

7. I picture Skinner, Elad and EarlG as benevolent Greek Gods

Smiling down with amusement on us mere mortals as we wage our silly battles and shake our little virtual fists in indignation and as we mock one another petulantly and without mercy.

And then they all go have a beer and watch RoboCop, knowing with divine certainty that when they return to gaze down on the DU it will be exactly the same as when they left it.

stop with that picture. Why do you continue to make us look at him? He is singularly unattractive and has no lips.

Please cease and desist!

13. Elad lives in a different state (that could be taken many ways)
but that's mostly how I see them too. I've met Skinner and EarlG and yet, I can still deify them, not when I'm standing in front of them, but at other times and I'm thrilled that they don't come on here and laugh at us directly.

I'm thrilled about them not coming on here and laughing at us directly, too. :)

17. Dailykos is a confusing nightmare
Endless "diaries" and far too many un-categorized posts with voluminous comment threads.

No thanks, I'll stick to the sanity of DU.

14. We've certainly seen our share of "ass holes"
But I think they've been handily outnumbered by the vast majority of thoughtful and passionate idealists.

I think DU is doing a fine job.

Unfortunately, it's a problem with the web and media in general. We naturally gravitate towards self reinforcing communities (or news channels) and now have enough choice to do so. Along the way, we become more self assured that what we feel is right. It's one of the reasons I am a big fan of The Week Magazine (intentially offers both sides), and why I avoid all op-ed; left, right or center. Actually, I am always looking for good centrists op-eds, they just dont seem to sell.

By your call sign, I assume you were/are a Green Beret/SF. I spend a lot of time at communities like Lightfighter which are theoretically domain specific (a professional military community) but the group think around politics is unbearable.
