Look around you. Think for yourself.

You know they're trying to destroy our new President before he even gets a good start.

Remember 1993? We've been here before.

Let's not let this happen again.

I'm just sayin'.

Remember.

1. Well, not EVERYTHING
Not Rachel. She just had Bernie Sanders on her show, too. But I admit that I've been out all day and haven't seen any other tv. Pretty grim, huh?

I'll budge.

But only in the interest of bipartisanship, or whatever the Republicans are calling it today.

8. Funny you should mention that
See, I'm a nightshifter so I only got up a few hours ago and it took me a while to piece it all together and as a major non fan of Daschle, I was pleased. But really, the shitstorm must have been earlier because today doesn't look all that different from any other day on DU.

22. What you call "lynching" is exposure that we should all welcome
It is not about the tax. It is about his "advisory" role to UnitedHealth that is what is bad with our health care system. A major insurance company that screwed patients and doctors while giving millions to its shareholders and executives. Andrew Cuomo went after them last months and got some millions back to cancer patients that they robbed.

When a CEO of a paper shuffling company gets $100 million a year in compensation, while doctors have to leave the field because they cannot make ends meats, when hospitals have to layoff nurses and technicians while insurance companies are making like bandits - this is what requires a major reform.

But Daschle advised them. Do you really think he would have done anything to cut their source of income?

And this is what he was going to be asked, and this is why he had to resign.

27. I agree with your take on Daschle, but that's not the point
I'm aware that Daschle is no friend to what I support, single-payer national healthcare.

But he WAS politically lynched today by the American media propaganda machine.

Surely you can't dismiss that?

15. I think it's getting worse...
I don't watch the tv, but I feel my world getting smaller. Maybe I don't have as much time or inclination to search for news, but it seems less is being reported and it's harder to find. It's like the internet is a major dumping ground.

This really extends to entertainment TeeVee as well.

37. "History will be kind to me for I intend to write it."
This from the honorable Winston Churchill, as he was explaining how he intended to get away with using chemical weapons against people in India.

Of course this does not fit the history that he wrote, so you never hear about this.

And so it goes.

Almost nothing in the mass media has any other intent than to keep us in line.

41. I agree
Then there was all those house flippin shows.I've always wondered who bankrolled those shows.

Here is a real life example of the power of even inconsequintel images seen on TV. There is a BarB Que sauce on the market called Sweet Baby Rays.It is a good sauce but never had done all that well in sales.
Then one week the sales started going up.Way up.A lot more than what one would expect in such a short time.now you can usually find it on store shelves with the big name brands.
The producers were happy,of course, but the could not figure out why the increase.Until an employee figured it out.He was watching a rerun of the MTV show Cribs. The rap star whose home they were showing showed what was in his refridgerator. In it was Champagne, beer and Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce.
The SBR producers checked back and sure enough the first spike started the week after the show originally aired.
The image was on for only a couple of secods.
Yet in that couple of seconds a whole lot of people were branded.

TV gots power.Anyone says different is a fool or a liar.

26. well it is a system based on non-peer reviewed, individual ownership, sustained on ads.
kinda designed to be predominantly propaganda from the get go, doesn't it? the system itself from inception is flawed. doesn't mean the idea of a free press is flawed. just means our method of implementation is rather short-sighted and prone to abuse, an abuse that we so take for granted that before we assume it's often not there. the genius of propaganda is when they can let you convince yourself that it no longer is what it blatantly is...

31. It's news for profit. Irritainment.
Don't know about you, but news divisions on network radio, TV and newspapers were independent from the sales departments. News operations were not run as profit centers, but as a public service.

Now, if it bleeds, it leads. Unless it's about sex.

Sad, really.

42. the public service mentality is definitely lost, isn't it?
that's probably why it took a little bit longer for such a full corruption of the industry/public commons facility. Hearst definitely help major inroads to internal destruction and the past 30 years pretty much finalized the completion. kinda sad.

dig the Irritainment label, very apropos to its current function to cause disorganized agitation. note "Shiny Object Du Jour" effect in GD here, let alone the outer world in general. a scattered enemy is a prone enemy.
