2. Well then Blago is accomplishing his goal.
Poisoning the potential jury pool.

He even so much as alluded to that fact on Letterman tonight.

What a scum bag.

3. No, Fitz poisoned the jury pool when he said Blago was the most corrupt politician ever
Edited on Wed Feb-04-09 12:43 AM by McCamy Taylor
and then admitted later that he did not even have a case against him and needed more time to gather evidence.

That made Fitz a liar who was using public opinion and the press to indict Blago in an attempt to punish him for attacking Bank of America and perhaps even keep him from nominating a Dem for Obama's seat and most definitely keep his (Fitz's ) job in the new administration so he could be the new Ken Starr and get some promised favor under the next Republican administration.

The Fitz fan club needs to decide whether they even care about the Democratic Party and health care and the working class or not, because Fitz is working for the folks who want to see us all in economic chains forever. The corporate press that lionizes him is owned by the same corporations that take your tax money and repossess your homes and send your jobs overseas and keep you from filing bankruptcy and charge you 25% interest and pay themselves big bonuses. And Fitz exists to help them stay in power. He provided cover for the Bush DOJ when it was at its most corrupt with his sham investigation of Plamegate. When he should have been out before the press complaing that he was not being allowed to do his job, he pretended that some semblance of justice had been done. He participated in a farce in order to keep his job. I will bet that he and Rove had some nice quiet chuckles over it.

Where is Archibald Cox when you need him?

4. Blagojevich is corrupt
His impeachment was about more than his taped phone calls. He was the worst governor I have lived under in this state, and I've lived here 35 years. Sorry to say even the Republicans did a better job, albeit George Ryan wasn't much better. But he at least implemented the Illinois First program, which replaced falling apart school buildings all over the state. Blago did nothing except overspend. His claims of implementing quality health care are a load of BS - the state is unable to pay for it.

Flame away - but please arm yourself with facts first, and not Blagojevich's half truths and outright lies.

And FYI - Fitzgerald often asks for extensions - it's standard procedure for him, being that he's a meticulous prosecutor. He then goes on to convict the corrupt politicians and their cronies that have infested this state.

9. all right, some facts - Ryan was many times worse than Blago
fact one: the money Ryan was accused of taking is about 100x the dollar amounts if you add up all of the accusations against Blago and believe everything.

fact two: Much of what Ryan took ended up in his pocket. I have yet to see any charge against Blago claiming personal gain. Overanxious Campaign fundraising, yes, personal theft, no.

fact three: due to Ryan's negligence and personal profit, people died. Remember this? No willfull misconduct of the state under Blago lead to people dying.

Fact is, no matter what Blago gets convicted of, even if it's all true, the worst governor you lived under in IL was Ryan. Claiming otherwise is a Republican lie based purely on the fact there was more public discussion of the charges against Blago and a flashy impeachment Fitz never exposed Ryan to.

5. You're wrong about Fitzgerald
and his work on the Valerie Plame matter.

If you aren't familiar with the law he was charged with enforcing, let me tell you that it is such a badly-drafted, narrowly-drawn work that it is, for all practical purposes, impossible to enforce. It's a terrible law with a sordid legislative history.

And, when you research that particular law, be sure to note the name of its author.

Victoria Toensing.

She's the wife of Joe deGenova.

Fitzgerald never had a chance. You'd practically need a confession to get a conviction under that law. Given the circumstances, he was very lucky to get the conviction he did of Libby.

That said, I'm appalled at what he pulled with that premature indictment of Blagojovich. His rationale was, allegedly, that he didn't want Blago to sell the Senate seat, to which I must ask, "Why not?" That, at least, would have been an offense that would have been demonstrably prosecutable. Right now, Blago's no fool. He's making all the noise he needs to make because, in truth, I'm just not sure that Fitzgerald has a very good case against him.

The Chicago Tribune/Children's Hospital tapes might sink him, but, being that it's Illinois, that's no slam-dunk, either.

8. I was just thinking about that..
"Saturday Night Massacre" the other day. The good old days. But then again so was Fitzmas. I've never understood how/why he was nominated for the Illinois U.S. Attorney, when he had been working in New York all those years on the 93 WTC bombing, and Osama bin Laden. And in September of 2001. I don't remember his testimony before the 9/11 Commission or even if it was public, but looking back it seems so odd. Between Governor Siegleman, Governor Spitzer, the Attorney General Firings, and basically the total corruption of the Justice Department I just get the creeps when I see him.

7. Blago's funnier than Letterman any day.
Letterman's funny started disintegrating when he made his theaters deliberately cold, to keep his audience from falling asleep. Blagovitch doesn't need props or a cold theater; he's funny all on his own.
