Sen Boxer Tells Repubs - We Won The Election, So STFU
Edited on Wed Feb-04-09 10:56 AM by kpete
Boxer said she was shocked that a senator from a neighboring state where the housing market has crashed as badly as in California would urge the slow-moving Senate to slow down even more. Republicans were digging in, suggesting that the mid-February deadline set by congressional leaders should slip into March.

Boxer accused Republicans of trooping to the floor with coordinated talking points against the bill even as one of their own, New Hampshire Republican Judd Gregg, joined the Obama administration as the nominee to be commerce secretary.

"Jobs being lost every minute - maybe you should look inside yourself and roll up your sleeves and get to work with us," Boxer said.

"After eight long years of Republican rule around here, where we saw the debt go from $5 trillion to $10 trillion and not a word from the other side about fiscal responsibility," Boxer said. "Tax cut after tax cut to the wealthiest few, unlimited checkbook for Iraq. No problem then. We didn't hear speeches about the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren, oh no," Boxer said. "When people are losing their homes ... suddenly my friends on the other side come out with their charts. Oh, my goodness, a trillion dollars. Well, we had a presidential election about this."

2. All Dems need to echo this
As well as the people. We need their constituents to inundate the GOP in boxes and phones with this sentiment. I would think some republicans are losing their jobs too (other than the offices held by the GOP of course, which is seeing voter produced layoffs en-mass!)

7. Well now there's something you don't hear every day
I wonder why this point of view can't quite seem to get fit in on the 24-hour all-blather all-the-time network and cable shows? It would sure pique my interest in those programs a lot more if we heard even a little of this every day. I know that Sen. Boxer (long may she serve) isn't the only one saying this, either.

14. For 200 years of our Constitution...
we have been able to speak and express ourselves. And I've got to tell you, this is dangerous to our democracy when one party wants it all. When one party wants to stop minority rights, that is dangerous, and that's where we're at.

15. Who's stopping it?
Obama caved in to multiple GOP demands and they still voted no. They are stifling their own requests. They are not going to SET policy because they overwhelmingly lost the latest elections. For 200 years the Majority in this country have helped shape policy. Now the minority wants to do this...if they'd actually vote Yes on something, they'd actually have some provisions of their own.

18. Sorry, I apologize for not attributing my quote...

Barbara Boxer on the senate floor 4/25/2005.

Basically, the repukes were telling Dems to STFU on judicial nominees (the filibusters) since they were the majority.

20. About time Boxer or any other Dem has jumped on the partisan republicans assholes...
Edited on Wed Feb-04-09 04:06 PM by GreenTea
the small minority republican party who want to intimate the Democrats and bluff filibusters to control congress, the president and worst of all, the workers, into more tax cuts for the corporations who put us in this mess with their deregulation and greed.

You can't give these republicans an inch or they'll fuck you over completely....you have to be in the republicans face, show your not afraid and then kick their ass and remind them they are the minority party with NO power!

So shut the fuck up!!

24. The sad part about this is, even after taking control of the White House and both houses of
Congress, the Congressional Democrats will still be hamstrung by the Republican minority at every turn simply because they're too much of a bunch of pussies to act like the majority they are and just steamroll over them and get it done. Such a pity, too.

28. This woman has a huge future in the Democratic Party..
I have always loved her..and she does what's right. I have emailed her and she has responded so many times, unlike Nancy Pelosi who ignored most of my messages. I only ever got one email from Dianne Feinstein. But Barbara Boxer put me on her list, and we got messages every week nearly for several years. If I asked a question, I would get an answer. If she didn't know the answer her staff would find out. She is fantastic, and her dedication to serving the people is just amazing.

32. Yeah, but we didn't win the election ...
'cause apparently you need to hold at least 60 seats to get anything passed.

And probably more than 60, because there's always one or two Democrats ready to vote contrary-wise. Unlike the disciplined and lock-stepping Republicans.

Maybe in 2010 ...
