Yesterday Senate Republicans voted in lockstep AGAINST infrastructure spending.
(x-posted from GD-P for maximum Republican-shaming effect)

Despite previous highlighting a lack of infrastructure spending as grounds to oppose the stimulus, yesterday Republicans voted against including additional funds for infrastructure. But hey, I guess anything's game to hold hostage for more corporate tax cuts, eh?

:wtf:

From the following article from the Washington Post:

Senate Lacks Votes to Pass Stimulus

The momentum to cut spending became apparent in votes on several amendments. First, the Senate fell two votes shy of the 60-vote threshold needed yesterday to add $25 billion for highway projects and transit programs.

Here are the votes:

Amendment Number: S.Amdt. 110 to S.Amdt. 98 to H.R. 1 (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009)

Statement of Purpose: To strengthen the infrastructure investments made by the bill.

A special "f* you" goes out to Landrieu, the only Dem to vote against and Gregg, way to thank your new boss there chief. And props to Specter who has been calling for increased infrastructure spending and had the guts to be one of two Republicans to vote in favor (along with Kit Bond).

3. What's with Landrieu (D-LA)?
Doesn't Louisiana need any infrastructure work? Everything's just fine there? Levees up to par? Full employement in NO? Must be nice.

5. She wanted more money for levees.
Important, yes. But reason enough to torpedo all infrastructure spending? No. Particularly considering she's unlikely to get what she's asking for as part of the stimulus.

6. CNN calls shitting on our nation's infrastructure "showing muscle".
Republicans show muscle in first Senate stimulus test

(CNN) -- The Senate's first attempt to make a change to the economic stimulus package failed Tuesday night, a sign that Republicans do have some power to change how the bill is structured.

The vote was on adding $24 billion in infrastructure spending on things like highways, mass transit and improvements to water and sewer systems. Had the amendment passed, the Senate's version of the economic stimulus package would have topped $900 billion.

The procedural vote that would have allowed the Senate to waive the budget rules and move forward on the amendment failed.

Democrats needed just two more votes to proceed on the amendment. The provision failed, with a vote of 58 in favor and 39 opposed. A three-fifths majority was required on the motion...

Another example of the MSM working for you.

14. Oh, I'll be calling.
First break from work I'll get.

I'm going to call Specter and thank him. Also tell him that I hope this signals his support of the stimulus plan when the full thing comes to a vote. And ditto for Casey.
