Why the fuck are the Dems afraid of a GOP filibuster? |
|
Let them have a filibuster. Let the American people watch the GOP on their teevees, delaying their economic stimulus, while they lose their jobs at about 500K a month.
Seriously, call their bluff. Why do they continue to fear these people? They lost. They have no mandate.

1. Because we have too many "blue dogs" in our party that will side with repubs |
|
not Democrats. Dems know this and know that if the GOP filibusters they can with no interference from Reid who is one of the BushDogDems himself.

5. Why not call the blue-dogs' bluff too? |
|
Make them get on the teevee and explain why they're helping the GOP stall the stimulus?

11. They should. Absolutely. Then the American people will know the repubs are the majority |

not the minority party in congress when it comes down to votes.
This way, people won't see President Obama as 'weak', but see the truth that despite the lack of "R's" in congress, the BushDemDogs are helping the repubs remain in control and he's fighting people in his own party as much as he's fighting repubs.
I think the dialogue in media will change drastically. Or not, since they're pro-corporate to begin with.

2. I've been asking myself this since 2006 |
|
and I still haven't figured out an answer. It just makes no sense to me. Let 'em filibuster.

3. It's the "good cop/bad cop" or "crazy partner" schtick. |
|
The Democrats would really like to implement policies that help the American people (and coincidentally hurt their corporate paymasters)--it's just that the mean old Republicans won't let them!

4. They only threaten to fillabuster, Ried never makes them actually do it... |
|
..doing it would require them holding the floor without a break, indefinitely to prevent a vote.
No sitting down... no going to the bathroom... that's how fillabusters work.
But now the republican's just say that they WOULD fillabuster, and Reid just goes with it... they've never actually done it.

6. Not dems, just Harry Reid. When Reid here's the word filibuster he gets scared and bends over for... |
|
..the GOP.
Hasn't he already preempted Obama with the "...I don't work for him ..." statement

9. If we can get to the point where |
|
the public clearly wants a defined Recovery bill... go ahead and call their bluff. I believe the PR effect on the GOP would be at least as harsh as when Gingrich got blamed for "shutting down the government" in the mid 90s.
