Let's follow the logical outcome if a stimulus bill does not pass
Our economy continues to contract. The retail and car industries all but shut down. Commercial real estate vacancies go through the roof. Restaurants close. Small businesses shut down. Jobless rates increase. People lose healthcare. Foreclosure rates continue to skyrocket. 1 in 5 houses becomes vacant. Real estate values plunge 50% or more. Credit card issuers close accounts and demand payment. Corporate bonds default. Municipal bonds default. Crime rises. Gun sales increase. Food shortages and hoarding.

But, Republicans huddled around the fireplace burning their dining room chairs for heat while they listen to Rush Limbaugh on their crank radios will have the satisfaction of saying, "Well, at least the Obama administration failed."

2. you mean tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts?
You're right.

I wish we could have a laboratory to prove this. How about the Republican states get the Republican stimulus and the rest of us get the Democratic one and then we see in 2 years who did better?

8. We *do* have a laboratory that proved this. It's our current economy.

9. You're right.
Why are people so stupid? :banghead:

Why do loud mouthed syncophants on radio and television cheerlead for ongoing failure? They appeal to the 22% of the irrevoccably ignorant but the rest of us get dragged over the cliff with them.

3. To be honest...
Thats easy to predict, based on what is happening now. What is tougher to predict is what will change if this stimulus bill passes. Will things be dramatically different? Is it big enough? Will it stimulate the economy efficiently in the right areas? Will it give America time to address the underlying problems that caused this mess? Will America address it anyway? etc, etc. No one has a crystal ball to either scenario really.

5. To get it through too many concessions will be made to Repugs
...in the spirit of Bi-Partisanship. The bill will be so F**ked up that it will be a year before we actually know what's in it. That's the way those Omnibus bills usually work out. Lot's of Pork that doesn't go where it was intended to go and things we thought were positive turn out to be negative.

10. I agree wholeheartedly Oregone.
The administrations over the last 30 years have created a global mess, although during the last 8 it really took off. I don't know if the Presidents proposal will help. But, good lord, I do hope so.

Dems...just pass this bastard and get on with it. Pass it, take the inevitable ribbings from Conservatives, and let's let this start working. Quite frankly, no one will really be appeased by anything. The majority voted for Obama to do his thing. Let him do it. Get it over with.

And I say this because I am surrounded by Repukes that know everything, and would not agree to anything Obama did even if he single handedly cured cancer. There would be something wrong with it. I'd like to say STFU, you lost, but it wouldn't be a valid arguement, someone would find a way to argue for that and just team up on my "minority" beliefs in my particular department. We cheated, it was the Democratic Congress the last 4 years that screwed it up.

13. That's what I fear many of us think--it's all be rainbows and sunshine.
"Who the hell knows" is right--but it's also right when it comes to what will happen if THIS stimulus bill ISN'T passed.
