Hartmann: "Call it the JOBS BILL. Harry Reid, make 'em filibuster! Roll back the Reagan tax cuts."
Edited on Wed Feb-04-09 04:35 PM by seafan
Thom Hartmann is hopping mad over what's happening.

He says we should stop calling this an "economic stimulus", because the Republicans are trying to conflate this package with the highly unpopular TARP 'stimulus' bill. The effect will be that everyone will end up hating it.

Thom says we need to call it what it really is, and that is a JOBS BILL. The "America Back To Work Bill", and refer to it as "The Jobs Bill." He says the current name "economic stimulus bill" was a mistake by Obama's team. He hopes it is not too late to start referring to it differently from now on.

HARRY REID!!!!

Force the Republicans to stand on the Senate floor in filibuster and say WHY they are against it.

Make them state WHY THEY ARE OPPOSED TO:

..an expansion of broad band internet access to rural areas

..why they are opposed to programs to improve infrastructure and develop rural communities

..why they are opposed to improvements in our criminal justice system

..why they are opposed to funding for science and technology research

..why they are opposed to community-oriented funding for policing services

..why they are opposed to repairing, maintaining and renovating Department of Defense facilities

..why they are opposed to energy efficiency projects and modernization of heating and cooling systems

..why they are opposed to energy-related research and development

..why they are opposed to funding the Army Corps of Engineers... remember the levees in New Orleans?

..why they are opposed to modernizing the nation's electrical grid

..why they are opposed to construction and repair of federal facilities

..why they are opposed to funding for clean water programs and water infrastructure projects

..why they are opposed to capital improvements and maintenance for Forest Service, National Park Service and the Superfund Program

..why they are opposed to funding the Department of Health and Human Services

..why they are opposed to funding for labor and employment training programs

..why they are opposed to renovating our elementary and secondary schools

..why they are opposed to Pell grants and other programs to help kids go to college

..why they are opposed to Defense construction projects including hospitals, barracks and day care centers, to simply upgrade our existing military structure

..why they are opposed to funding the Department of Veterans Affairs

..why they are opposed to IT projects for the State Department to bring them into the 21st century

..why they are opposed to funding highway construction

..why they are opposed to housing assistance

..why they are opposed to grants to states and cities for community development

..why they are opposed to giving more money to the CAP program (Community Action Programs)

..why they are opposed to extending a tax credit for renewable energy production

Make these IDIOTS stand up there in the Senate and TALK! Let the American people see and hear from these greed-driven bastards who want to perpetuate class war against us.

Let 'em talk, Harry! Thom says send some smelling salts to Harry, and quick, so he won't faint every time the Republicans threaten to filibuster!

HARRY, LET 'EM TALK!!!

Thom is on a rampage over this.

Just as I like "renewable energy" as apposed to "Green". Green infers hippie. To be against "renewable" would just be stupid! Call it the Jobs Bill or the Keep Families from Starving and Dying in the Streets Bill! Who could appose that!? The repukes would argue that it's a waste of taxpayer dollars? Please GOP. Die off and disappear.

Edited on Wed Feb-04-09 04:27 PM by GreenTea
Let the American people see your bullshit, partisan games, expose republican corporate greed for even more tax cuts for the corporations - after eight years of Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy & corporations the republican say still not enough tax cuts and fuck the workers.

So let the fucking republicans filibuster...they never to....just idle threats and the Dems always back off....who is the majority power in this country?

Democrats show your unity and strengthen!

49. After 8 years of tax cuts
that were supposed to create jobs and two wars without end, where are the jobs? Unemployment is on the rise, the treasury looted by war profiteers and we're on the precipice of an economic disaster.
Without their handmaidens in the corporate media, the Republicans would be extinct, and rightfully so. Rewarding failure and criminality should have crashed and burned already.
The disaster Republicans and their media stooges need constant reminding as to who won the election, and so does the Democratic leadership.

36. I have railed against Harry for the last two years.
He rolled over not once, but twice: FISA and, allowing another bad piece of legislation come to floor---forgot now which it was (he allowed it to come to floor when he could have stopped it). But nonetheless, I have Harry's fax numbers for both DC and Reno. Reno number is 775-686-5757. DC fax is 202-224-7327. I say fax numbers because you can get through, and they have more impact than email or call. And I will say that if Reid loses his leadership post, Dick Durbin is next in line. He has bigger nads than Reid. Yes Harry, you are a f'ing disgrace.

I hope many DU'ers will make his fax machine overheat. And they do leave it on at night. :spank:

Just to send this stuff to my two Senators and Reid via websites take a lot of time.

White House has open e-mail, but they may be trying to change that as Isee Obama

has a new form.

28. This failure to get ahead of the game on selling this bill to the people is disturbing.
It's partly the fault of He-Who-Has-No-Nads, but it's also the fault of the other Democratic leadership, including the President.

I think this is another example of President Obama trying to play bi-partisanship and betting that he can seduce the reich wing into going along. WAKE UP, Mr. President, it ain't gonna happen. Get your best propaganda team together NOW and get them into hyperdrive before you get slammed on your first big one.

but daydreaming about Reid/Pelosi ever doing anything is fantasy . . .

Show me even one day when they have done anything progressive --- !!!

Maybe Hartmann thinks he'll scare Reid into doing something!!!????

Not likely ---

We're controlled by hierarchies --- and Reid/Pelosi are the controllers to STOP

what should be getting done.

If we ever had 60 votes, Reid would probably talk Lieberman into turncoating to GOP -- !!!

Leadership is the key -- look to hierarchies, like the new Cabinet/administration picks!!

And try to figure out how to overturn that heap of power smothering democracy.

Meanwhile -- damn sure hope I'm wrong --- !!!

57. I used this to write an email to my worthless senator.
Vile Kyl:

Dear Senator Kyl,

Although I may not be a member of your "base," I am one of your constituents. I am deeply concerned about the lack of cooperation you and your Republican colleagues are showing toward the Whitehouse's efforts to move our country forward. President Obama has attempted bipartisanship and the Republicans in Congress have responded with partisan bickering. This, while thousands are losing their jobs and homes. Why? So wealthy Americans can continue to escape paying taxes? Tax cuts have not worked in the past and in fact, are a remnant of failed Reaganomics. All they serve to do is enlarge the deficit and increase the disparity between rich and poor. Have you ever had to decide between medicine and food? Between paying the light bill or buying shoes for a child who has outgrown his? Please realize that only a very few of your constituents are well off.

I really want to know why you oppose programs to improve infrastructure. I want to know why you oppose funding for science and technology research. Why do you energy-related R&D? Funding the Army Corps of Engineers? Modernizing our nation's electrical grid? Making our schools safe and ensuring that schools have the funds to function and repair buildings? Aid to college students? Funding to VA so our veterans can have adequate health care when they return from serving our nation overseas? Please explain why you oppose helping Americans and insist on tax cuts for the wealthy. They do not stimulate job growth but only to concentrate the nation’s wealth in the hands of a few.

Our nation is at a crossroads and needs help like never before. Clinging to the old saw about tax cuts is not helping. It is obstructionist and counterproductive. Please encourage your senate colleagues to remember that their constituents are real people, not numbers, not the wealthy. They are regular folks who try to make a living and face daily stress over losing jobs and homes.

Thank you for your time.

65. Thom is right on point as usual.
I could listen to that man all day. He would make an awesome university professor. Too bad Harry Reid is a spineless wimp. I can't stand him.

67. i wonder if we should buy a certain book for our members of Congress
"Cracking the Code" by Hartmann.

They should read it. I can get it for Mikulski, Cardin, and Sarbanes (house).

Anyone else?

Bush: Economic stimulus package to be "robust"
Wed Jan 23, 2008 4:23pm EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush insisted on Wednesday that the economic stimulus package he is working on with Congress will be robust enough to help the U.S. economy.

"I talked to them about my desire to work with the Congress to get a stimulus package passed, one that's going to be robust enough to affect the economy, simple enough for people to understand it and efficient enough to have an impact," Bush told reporters after a White House meeting with a group of city mayors.

"I'm confident that we can get something done," he added. "There's a spirit that says we need to take a fundamentally sound economy and help it ... deal with the uncertainty with a pro-growth package."

Bush was speaking a day after he and leaders of the Democratic-led Congress vowed to move quickly to work out the details of a $150 billion stimulus package for the U.S. economy. Recession fears have roiled world financial markets.

Should not we be using the "ROBUST PACKAGE" buzz words to sell Obama's Jobs Bill?

70. Been watching the hearings all day and am ill
How dumb can the repubs get? Close down the damn govt. if that is how they want to play politics. Schumer has been good today and loved it when Boxer stopped Lindsey Graham who was waving the bill in the air and making fun of it. She said basicly, enough with the theatrics - actually Lindsay wasn't even making sense. It was fun, but Boxer got cut off immediately. The only laugh of the day.

71. YES! - Call it a Jobs bill
That is what it needs to be billed as. Not simply a stimulus. We or they have tried too many of those and they failed.

Create jobs now. New jobs will create more jobs.

72. What they need to keep repeating
is that Republicans are opposing putting Americans to work because the leader of the Republican party, Rush Limbaugh, wants Obama and America to fail.

They need to say that every chance they get.

74. I like it. Jobs Bill. "America Back to Work Bill."
Yeah, vote against that and then go explain to your constituents why you voted against the Jobs Bill. This is a very Republican strategy. They used to do this all the time. Now turn it on them. Fitting.

76. JOBS BILL - Republicans use HAVA & other names to.....
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 05:12 PM by GreenTea
get the people thinking positive about republican bills & acts simply by naming them with positive names & connotations and all the republicans names are bullshit, the opposite of what they really intend to do.

The republicans called the 2002 republican written "Help America Vote Act" (HAVA) when it was actually meant & written to do the opposite, to purge Dem voters, steal votes with electronic voting machines, keep people from voting by demanding ID's.

But the people believed the bullshit title (HAVA) because it sounded positive, republicans were masters at it and the Dems still haven't learned how to use and name bills & acts in a positive context?

Now here's a democratic bill, a stimulus that absolutely WILL create jobs. The Dems should be labeling it what it is and get behind it as the JOBS BILL and then watch the republicans sink or try and fight a JOBS BILL with their idiotic more tax cuts for corporations.

78. I've been calling Reid, Stabenow and Levin all day...
talked to one live person and voice mail many times. On his answering machine, I asked Reid to do the right thing and step down, make room for someone that really wants to lead. This is our time and it won't wait. The wimps gotta get out of the way:spank:
