obviously the mammoth didn't need to live on a glacier or the frozen tundra.

What gets me is that dinosaur fossils have been found in northern Alaska.

I don't know much about San Diego but I do know that L.A. is home to the La Brea Tarpits and it is a virtual treasure trove of pre-historic remains:
