My blood is boiling...
Hi DU,

Gotta post a little rant here, and vent a little. Hear me out.

I have become so jaded with what is currently going on with the state of our nation. We're lucky enough to have a strong, competent Democratic president and majorities in both houses. Normally, I'd be extremely blissful about this. Unfortunately, our Democratic leaders are just not getting the point. Let me explain.

I have had it up to here with the whole BIPARTISAN thing. Give me a fucking break. Do the Dems remember how they and their brethren were treated when we were the minority? How in the hell can they not remember? We all remember. These asshole Republicans will not stop being obstructionists, or give one fuck about what Dems or the American people think. They have absolutely no reason to change their behavior. Hell, why would they? It's been one big ass gravy train up to this point. Nothing less than hearings and prosecutions will make them change their ways. How damn hard is that to understand?

The little fuckers are trotting out Cheney again, and playing the fear card again. The media goes along with it. Nothing changes.

We need hearings. We need prosecutions. The evidence has to be overwhelming! Nothing will change short of that, I'm afraid.

Thanks for letting me rant. Here's hoping for the best.

43. killer instinct
The problem seems to be we don't have the instinct for the fight - the commitment to getting our way no matter what. Brotherhood and reaching across the aisle is what we want, but if turning the other cheek doesn't work, it's time to smack them in the mouth! We need to get things moving to solve some of these problems, then worry about being friends - they don't want friendship and collegiality obviously, only power. Just listen to Michael Steele's comments when he was elected to head the RNC!

But think about being a house member from a red district. Your only competition comes from...the right. So what do they care about acting bipartisan? Obama needs to write off these hicks. And John BONER. And his tanning salon. And his green tie.

He is doing exactly what he said he would do during his campaign. How soon we forget.

I do agree that there is no playing nicey-nice with sociopaths, but this is what he promised and this is what we get.

4. First,
Cheney made that pronouncement on his own, and the GOPigs are VERY unhappy about his having done that.

Second, Obama promised change and a spirit of bipartisanship is a necessary change that our country needs. You don't expect a child to walk perfectly when he first stands on his own; nor should you expect things to go smoothly right from the start.

Third, it's been fifteen days. What have YOU accomplished in a new job with 200,000,000 constitutents in the past two weeks?

Fourth, I have no idea what you're talking about when you write about "hearings..... prosecutions." Are you suggesting that legislators who don't go along with the President's proposed stimulus plan should be investigated and prosecuted? Surely you can't be suggesting something that ridiculous.

What on earth did you think would happen when President Obama was sworn in? That everything would change immediately?

You know better than that. I am sure you do.

10. Sorry, I should've clarified my position.
Too much ranting, I suppose. LOL

Anyway, when I was referring to hearings and prosecutions, it wasn't pertaining to the stimulus. It's all of the other BS that's happened when these RW pigs were in control (over the last 8 years).

Of course, Pelosi put that crap off of the table.

Sorry, so many issues...........

Right now, all that matters is the economy. If the economy collapses and our country goes under financially, not much else matters.

Give the guy some time to get it going, and then, I honestly believe, the right things will be done.

I know. Sometimes you just have to let it rip. You did a good one.

7. The media wants a story at all costs! If Obama would have fought for Daschle,
it would have been a story... oh he is changing his policy on clean government
Now that he didn't fight for Daschle, old school political left wingers like Bill Press whine that he isn't ruthless enough and that you need OLD washington insiders to get things done

He moves to cap the pay of CEOs who take our money and we hear that he is "big brother".
If he didn't cap the pay or take some kind of regulatory action he would have been labeled as just another DLC tool.

He has to do what he thinks is best for the country and I think he is trying to do that.

I think that the media is the biggest threat we have to our democracy.

We are also our own worst enemies on the Dem side.

I'm personally sick of it. I am going to work with the grassroots to try and get things done. whining here and watching the hacks on tv only gets MY blood boiling!

And this is something that I have to keep saying to myself:

Obama ran on a platform of bipartisanship. He has no choice but to do what he's doing - or else he looks like a liar.

The high road won us this presidency and the high road will win us our goals. We have four years to turn this country around. Its been two weeks and look how far we've come.

34. I don't agree with that
The Democrats won because the public is disgusted with and rejected the religious right and Reaganomics. We should not be breathing new life into them.

How Obama looks should not be a major concern. We elect Democrats in the hope that they will listen and respond to the needs of the people, we don't tailor our positions and what we think and say based on what makes Democrats look good or helps them to gain office. That is backward, and places partisan advantage over the needs of the people, which is another thing the public is disgusted with. Electing Democrats to office is a means, it is not the end.

Obama did not run on a "platform of bipartisanship." He ran as a Democrat.

Collaborating with the right wing is not the high road, it is the lowest possible road we could take.

Before anything can "win us our goals" we need to know what those goals are and agree on them. When people are brought onto the team who have spent their entire lives fighting to the death against any and all goals other than those of the extreme right wing, people justifiably will object to that.

Bust their asses to the wall, and the next wave (inevitably), will think twice.

This whole "bipartisan" crap reeks of appeasement, and it doesn't benefit any of us.

These Republicans will not change, mark my words, unless the public really understands what brought us here. Only then, will there be hell to pay.

I long for that day......

Obama did run on a platform of bipartisanship, but to continue what he's doing is to ignore the fact that the situation has changed.

We don't have time for these cute little kabuki games. Anyone who remembers the 90s already knows that the Republicans don't give a fuck about anything but gaining and maintaining power and money. Our money. "Exposing them as obstructionists" is redundant bullshit that adds insult to injury.

9. It's all a brilliant master plan
See, the Dems accommodated the Repubs with things like Iraq War funding and FISA and stuff, but it was all a ruse. It was to embolden and trick the Repubs and it worked because the Dems did it AFTER they took the majority in 2006. So NOW, you see, the Repubs are so sure of themselves they can't even see the cunning behind the Dems positions.

You see, ...uh...er...

They are within the walls: All republicans, all spineless colluding democrats (DNC, Clinton -who deregulated the finance industry, Reid, Pelosi, Leiberman, Schumer, Daschle, and too many more to mention here) any politician who took money from Wall Street, invesment houses, banks, insurance companies, real estate interests, legal firms, major media entities, elite universities, and oil and drug corporations, and all the associations, lobbyists and think tanks that represent all of these thieves. The Empire is imploding from within! The real barbarians won't have to scale the ramparts, they will walk in to pick the bones of what is left!

70. Thanks for saying what I think. I am now worried about the
package being passed with enough of the right stuff in it to make a difference. I think these tax problems with Obama's picks have weakened him a little at a very bad time. I wish I knew what the public thought about the stimulus package. I don't believe polls anymore. One thing is for sure: if a package of some type is not passed quickly the market will gap down again as we cross the cusp of depression into the actuality of depression. All the markets are in declining wedge formations--not a healthy situation. This board is real interesting. Lot of research on topics done here.

11. Thanks for saying what I feel
What is it going to take before these idiots in Washington stop playing politics and just fucking do something that can help? I don't give a damn about all the little infighting, the election of Steele to head RNC is a complete slap in the face of anyone with a brain, the Republicans are just a bunch of thugs without a brain, surely their bottom line is being affected??? Still these nimrods are acting like it's politics as usual.

Fry Bush/Cheney/et al, nothing less will do. We need for EVERY congressperson, every senator, to have their taxes audited. I don't know about you, but as an accountant, knowing what kind of income he had to have that would result in the "mistake" of Daschle's taxes, this is beyond belief. Let's all start on a level playing field. I had my taxes audited for 4 years in a row while I was involved in a group trying to help immigrants from Central America during the Reagan admin. They have the power, do they have the guts?

32. Bipartisanship is the right thing and I support it.
The fact is, nearly every Republican in Washington, and a more than a few Dems too, don't give "one fuck" about Americans. They only care about their lining their own pockets and building more personal power. However, the vast majority of Americans do not give a flying crap which party is in power or what wrongs were done in Washington by one party to the other. Most Americans consider both parties equally to blame for the mess we are now in. They consider both parties corrupt and self serving - at least as far as DC goes. Americans are also very aware that the last Admin didn't play nice with anyone and they are sick of it.

"Bipartisanship" at the very least as a slogan is good PR. At best it is a weapon to shame the selfish thugs with R's next to their name. Short of cowtowing to the thievery the R's are trying to commit, bipartisanship is a very good thing. IMHO.

Our government is quite capable of doing more than one thing at a time.

Put these bastards in hearings. Have new ones everyday. The sheer salaciousness of the last administration would give the media a woody. The media is a tool. They love ratings and ad revenue.

Make people pay attention. Make them realize who the perps are that put us here. Americans will see that Obama is trying to do the right thing, but he has a hell of a mess to clean up. I hope the economy gets better. I hope.

Hard core Repukes will never back Democrats in any meaningful manner. It's basically them or us. It's a fundamental difference that has to be hashed out over the polls. I listen to CNBC all day, and these guys, though they will mention it in passing, just don't fully get that the normal Joe, who doesn't watch their idiotic programming, that is not drinking their GOP kool-aid, just does not agree with their we're the answer to everything attitude. I work in the industry. Not on wall street, but even the smallest of Advisors, Reps, and Brokers are so largely scum bags it's scary. They just are. They were used car salesman that got a license and found an easy way to make a buck. Now they are losing their buck, and dragging everyone else down with it, and it's our fault.

45. YES! We need to shut the fucking rethugs down and take away their political power!!
Their meddling into affairs of The President should be considered treason. They are holding back progress and it's time for it to stop.

46. We are never going to solve our country's problems with the same old tactics
Just because they did it means it's the right thing to do.

The problem is a few republicans who can't understand what bipartisanship is about. If they can't figure it out by 2010 then we unload a few more republicans and make it harder for them.

They'll learn eventually

Because they sure haven't changed even though THE AMERICAN PEOPLE gave them the tools.

50. well, it's kinda like I tell my kids,
"just because some one else is behaving badly, it's NOT an excuse for you to behave badly, too. Be nice and show them what appropriate behaviour is like. You have to live with yourself, and they have to live with themselves - now ask yourself one question: Do you really want to be like them?"

So, let me ask you, do you really want to be like them?

66. No, I don't want to be like them.
Of course, dont'cha think that this might just be a little bit different than telling your kids about appropriate behavior? Look, I admire that reasoning, but we're dealing with some awfully unreasonable people.

I want to see a boot up their ass. I want to see them humiliated. I'm no role model and different folks might have more reasonable ways to deal with these asshats.

Being nice just makes us look weak. I want comeuppance.

Just my $0.02

:)

I say (in the most feminine way possible) screw this bi-partisan crap, run the hell over them and let's get this done! We (the Democratic party )tend to be too wishy-washy about things and opportunities are missed.

52. I understand the gist of what Obama is trying to do
this country has become terribly divided ever since Reagan and that stinking Contract With America - it should NOT be that way - if one side keeps saying LOOK HOW THEY TREATED us and treats them the same, nothing ever gets solved. I do think, however, that repukes have hijacked America and driven her off a cliff and for now Obama needs to tell them to SHUT THE FUCK UP while he tries to fix this crisis.

54. Recommend a terminology change...
In all future references the word "Republican" (or its synonyms such as "re-thug", "Re-puke", etc.) should be replaced with a more appropriate acronym: SFHMB

That would be the Shit-Flinging Howler-Monkey Brigade.

Said it before, but it bears repeating - if the opposition party wants to do nothing but obstruct and fling feces around the room and out of their cage, then we need to move the cage out of sight and simply proceed to getting down to business without them...

57. Right you are!
I said months ago that the only reason the Democrats should reach across the aisle is to slap the crap out of the Repubs. You cannot appeal to their rational side because they don't have one. It's all "me" and "mine" with those jerks. They have no sense of compassion, logic. fair play, caring for the less fortunate among us, etc., etc. etc. They are, for the most part, without empathy or conscience.

I love what Howard Dean said a couple years ago: "I hate Republicans and everything they stand for. They're mean." Yep, that pretty much nails it.

Honestly, while the media are controlled by corporate monopolies we might as well give up any hope of them doing their jobs the way that it should be done. They need to be broken up, then maybe there is a chance that there would actually be more balanced and actual reporting happening. Also, I have long thought that Pelosi and Reid need to step down, or be voted out as "leaders". They have done so much harm with their bowing, scraping, kow towing, compromising and general vomitous behavior than I thought was possible. It's all a game to these people, sickening.

I really hope that it changes since it has only been a couple of weeks and they need to get it and realize that they are supposed to be the ones who are the majority and in charge.

61. The Republicans are still destroying themselves. They are making it obvious
to everyone, not just DUers, that they are obstructionists still clinging to the policies that failed and led to disaster. Obama held out his hand and they slapped it away. Now Obama will implement his plan without Republican help, and he's smart enough to follow up and make sure it works. And when the economy turns around, the Republicans only argument will be, "Well, it would have turned around faster under our policies." It's a weak argument and unprovable. Many voters will see that they weren't trying to help America at all. And it will cost the R's many seats in the House and Senate in 2010.

Just laugh at their stupidity, painting themselves into their obstructionist corner. Laugh at them and feel better.

67. loved the rant, I woke up frustrated this morning, tossing and
turning with some of the same thoughts you had. We won this election, and many called it a referendum on the economy and which party would best handle it. Why are we even listening to the losers that drove us off the cliff? I'm expecting to hear soon of a republican filibuster, whereupon Reid will promptly wet himself and then apoligize for not putting in more tax cuts for the weathly. I remember a few years ago, when the Rushpubelickers were the majority party, and the Democratics were complaining that they were excluding from meetings and even had to hold their meetings in a different room! Now they're in the minority and still calling all the shots. thanks for listening. Like many of you, I needed to vent. :( ;( :puke:  :wtf: :argh: :hurts: :nopity: :grr:   :banghead:

they do NOT care about the economy or the future of our country.

They will obstruct and resist any chance coming down the pike.

They are out for themselves, no one else.

To hell with them!

We need hearings/prosecutions is RIGHT!

THAT will get their attention!

No fucking way. We'll heal when the tumor is removed.

80. None of us should.
A timeline would show exactly how much shit we had to eat for so long.

There's just so much, that we can only remember so much.

I would like to see a shitstorm of hearings. Immediately. I understand the economic issues (no, actually I really don't), but our government is capable of doing more than one thing at a time.

Bust these fuckers hard. Make the next wave think about pulling this crap again.
